    Can honour and politics coexist?

At first glance it may seem naive to insist on honour in politics. To speak about honour is simply to speak about dignity and respect. We are often annoyed by politician's narcissism because the grandiosity of their words is not backed up by the substance of their deeds. Yet those who care for their honour will strive to be worthy of respect and feel shame when they have done something that makes them unworthy. Those who have no shame have no honour.

Yes, but in this day and age they make strange bedfellows!

The truth of the matter is honour and politics is supposed to coexist.  Honour is one of the ingredients of the foundation of politics.  Unfortunately, when we have human behaviour involved, it throws it all out.

Yes it can. But the problem is hardly few politicians are willing to accommodate both.

Honor and politics should coexist together and in many politicians I feel it does.  Politicians who make decisions for the good of the country and not for party reasons have honor.  Sometimes politicians are pressured to vote specific ways on legislation to support their party but vote their conscience.  These are examples where politicians and honor coexist.

In these economic times the issues facing our country must be met with honor by our politicians in doing the right thing for the country.

I just don't think it's possible for there every to be true honor in politics.  Corruption in politics goes back to its beginning roots and has never really changed.

It seems to me that in order to climb the political ranks, one must do "certain" things in order to progress.  I don't think that will ever change.  Greed will always be an overpowering and pervasive element in the political arena and will continue to make good people bad and make bad people even worse.
