   What are your views on the death penalty?
   
   While I do believe that some people should be put to death, the risk of sending an innocent person to death is too great.  I think either the requirements for the death penalty should be higher or is should be banned. What do you think?

   I don't believe that anyone has the right to take away human life, so I am against it.
   
   That, plus the fact that life-long incarceration is a worse punishment for those who deserve it.

   I agree with you 100%. I have read cases in the United States of innocents being lethally injected or electrocuted. It rarely happens, but one slip up in my opinion is enough to question capital punishment. According to Deathpenaltyinfo.org, 138 people have been found innocent while waiting on death row in the last 40 years.

   I do not think that this is a power that the government should have. That said, I also don't think the prison system here (I live in the US) is at all effective, and think that some truth-in-sentencing and all incarceration at hard labor would really go a long way to improving the overall crime rate. Not to mention, chain gangs are a great way to do double-duty on the budget -- the cost of maintaining prisoners can be at least partially offset by their contribution to infrastructure, conservation, and other such civic projects. It's just one way that people can be required to pay society back for their crimes. Life sentences at hard labor without the possibility of parole is my vote, not death.

   I favor death penalty in principle but in its actual implementation I have reservations because the judicial process from the investigation, prosecution and conviction is not foolproof. The justice system at times also doesn't also seem to be equitable, affording a good lawyer provides better chances against those who have no means to find competent defense counsel. 
   
   There is always that ever-present thought of sending an innocent man to his death. The thing with the death penalty is that once it is carried out it is absolute and final, a fate that perpetrators of heinous crimes deserve but clearly not for someone wrongfully accused and convicted. Unless the justice system and process is effective, fair and near-perfect, then it would be difficult to adopt the death penalty

   I am morally opposed to killing another person for any reason whatsoever.  That includes war, the death penalty and abortion.  I believe that justification for such actions leads us down a slippery slope.  I can easily envision a day when the termination of those deemed "unproductive" by the majority will be socially acceptable. 
   
   If that day ever comes, it will only be because we allow it.  Our nation's founding documents name life as one of three "unalienable" rights.  I agree 100%, and I believe that if we are unwilling to defend that right, even when socially unpopular, that we will lose it.

   If proven 100% without any doubt what-so-ever... then in my opinion, certain crimes should be punished with death.
   Some may disagree with my opinion and mark my answer down but before you do... how would you react towards someone who had murdered or raped one of your own family members?

   I wish there were no death penalty but the reality is the atrocities of mankind cannot even be rectified by the death penalty.
   
   Just yesterday I read several articles illustrating the atrocities during World War II period where women were raped by not only German men but a Russian men. The horror of these acts were so vicious seemingly more so by the Russians than the Germans laws had to be put into place so that the soldiers would return to the fighting rather than the mayhem inflicted to pick up one helpless women, children, husbands etc.

   I read where two young women's legs each were tied to two separate trucks driving in opposite directions as the men watched these trucks rip them apart.
   
   I read another article where a woman's home was filled with soldiers that were raping women and as one so to enter the building he and his friends pushed one woman onto a table and proceeded to cut off her breasts, as she screamed the soldiers roared with delight.
   
   Do people understand that there are some crimes so vicious even now that they will not publish the act to the case to the public.
   
   It's been a few years now but a couple of white supremacists tied a black man to the back of the pickup and dragged him down the road until they thought he was dead.
   
   For me personally many of these crimes are so horrific I have no idea what kind of justice can compare to the atrocities.

   If,we all felt what we do to eachother this obviously wouldn't be necessary.as we would be  Inflicting pain on ourselves as well.Insanity!  The only alternative would be to love one another.It's an Individual choice which God has deemed the best way - free will.We can learn the hard way or Gods way.He knows probably because he's been through it.Family is intended to to socialize the people for the good of all..

    I see the validity of the death penalty as it is a just punishment. However, our justice system is deplorable. People are being found innocent and released after years of incarceration all of the time. Moreover, I would like to know why we are one of the few indistrialized nations which still uses capital punishment. Also, why does the U.S. have the largest per capita prison population in the world? The system is far too broken to risk putting an innocent person to death. In fact, that is exactly why the death penalty was repealed here in New Mexico.

    i'm oposed to the death penalty,... i'm soo pro-life that i piss off pro-lifers who scream "eye for an eye" while toting signs depicting partial birth abortion.
    
    i want one of two things to happen in order for our justice system to be logical and ethical,...
    
    1) if your going to have capital punishment then it needs to be by public hanging on the courhouse lawn, at 1pm on sundays,.. televised,.. i never did anything at i minute past midnight that i wanted the world to see,... why do we execute people under cover of darkness? because we are ashamed? after al, if were soo comfortable with our position on capital punishment then we should have to see it, every federal elected official should be forced to attend, in person, any excution in their district.
    
    if we cant have capital punishment delivered in such a way as i have desribed, then we should abolish it all together and make life w/o parole mean xactly what it says. no prison library, no gym, just work or solitary confinement,.... period.
    
    capital punishment served its perpose when a community had no way of incarserating its worst criminals,... it was for the protection of the comunity that the worst of the worst were removed in this way,.. now we have prison systems, such as they are, to hold these subjects so that drs might study them, interview them,.. in order to learn from them.
    
    if we learn what creats a monster, we can stop creating monsters,... capital punishment is like swating flies while never removing the rottng corps from the room.

    I actually wrote an article on this a while ago.  I am 100% against the death penalty.  It is hypocritical.  Basically:
    
    Government - "Thou shalt not kill, but it's okay if we do it."
    
    The fact that someone else does it first is irrelevant.

    The Death Penalty is barbaric.  There is no justification for a government to put someone to death.  The only valid role of government is protection of the governed - and murdering one of it's own is not protection, it's murder.

    First, Murder is Murder. Whether it's strong armed or sanctioned its still murder. The death penalty has been around for a while, has it deterred crime in the least  What  it has done is cost taxpayers a huge sum of money. The criminal remains in jail at the taxpayers expense until it is  the day of execution. The officials spend time discussing how they will eliminate a person. Who is  worst the person who kills believing he or she has no way out or a person sanctioned by the establishment.

    Thou Shalt not Kill is a mis-interpretation of the commandment. It reads thou shalt not murder. To kill with out cause, to lay in wait to cause another's death, in this physical realm is to jeopardized their call to correction as well as it is for the Murder.
    
    None has die as of yet, they just are taken from this realm into Another realm or dimension if you like. An innocent who is wrongly murder or condemn has no Fear of punishment for the wrong doer's are the one's who blood is then required by God for/and of Those they took. This does not mean that the one Murdered is free from the correction of Whom they will follow.
    
    I agree the Legal system is flawed by far and many shall pay for this their lack in discerning the matters at Hand. Judgment begins at the Pulpit or the seat of Judgment. I would not want to be the one Judging cases today. For Justice is surely BLIND.
    
    But God Has given us the correct answer to this question and that we are to send the Rapist and Murders straight unto Him with out delay. And if we do this, that these things would cease to occur.
    
    He did not say that they would ever Stop Immediately or even completely! Only that They would Cease, that is the Murder and the Rapist would cease to do the will of their Father Satan. Or the one they chosen to follow at that point in time.
    
    Yes they should put in an express line in and clean out the prisons. As Per the instructions of the Father and Our Creator 
    
    For if an innocent is wrongfully kill at the hands of Judgment there is no Fault to their account in Heaven.
    
    The fault is laid upon those who have Judged the Matter without counsel of the One who has empowered them in the first place. Life and death lays at the Hand of the Judge or in America's Justices system At least Fifteen People. If they do Not Agree then It's Life in prison or until the case is solved in one way or the other innocent or guilty.
    
    And if found innocent restitution shall be made. To the one or to his family if they were dispatched unto the Father.

    I am against it. Although my country does not have capital punishment, I am against it anyway.
    I am aware that people in the prison system are draining government money, but they have to live without freedom and live with the crime they committed.
    Let them rot! That's what I say!
    You could even make them do hard labour. For instance imagine if we could create electricity from being on exercise bikes. Put all the prisoners on them get them to pedal all day long, we have electricity and the prisoners are contributing to society. But that's just me.

    The penalty should fit the crime, but you also have to take into account how lucky people our now with the modern legal system. only a few centuries ago most crimes met the death penalty, which cause more people to die resisting arrest than making it to an unfair or noexistent trial.

    In a democratic country, death penalty has been converted into life imprisonment which is not fixed but it should be not less than 14 years of prison. To me death penalty is a harsh punishment. But mine or your views do not reflect any positive effect on those countries where the punishment of death penalty is the only solution for them ignoring the humanitarian grounds.
