If life is worth living, is death worth anything?

   If life is worth living, is death worth anything?
   
   Everyone lives and dies, but what do you live for?  What, if anything, would you decided to die for?  Is there ever a reason to risk your life?  Would you do it for another?  Would you do it for an ideal?  Would you do it for what you believe in?  Why or why not?  Lastly, if we truly love something but are unwilling to die for it...?  If one was truly suffering, but could benefit another one loved by enduring, is that not just as noble as the reverse?

   die if you want to- live if you've got the balls to endure and leave it behind-
   all steps taken; good or not so good-mold us- define us- without pain- truly, one cannot understand pleasure- taking your life; something what does not belong to you in the first place, belongs to all---- this is the cowards way out,,, get off the pity pot- shine- or stay weak in self pity- and snuff the candle- what's worse- the people who never take the chance to live- or the risk taker who shines brightly ,if only in his or her own heart your choice child- grow up!...

   I believe in reincarnation, so life and death are of equal value to me.  From my perspective, death isn't the end but the last step before a new beginning.  I believe we live each life with a definite purpose.  There are lessons we come to learn in order to become enlightened and to prepare our souls for an even higher purpose.  Every endeavor we take, every pain we suffer, every joy we experience....all are connected to our final purpose for this life.  You ask if there are things we would die for...I'm not sure I would CHOOSE to die, but if I carry a strong enough conviction about the righteousness of one of my beliefs or endeavors, then I would let come what may but stand my ground, and be content that it is but another event meant to lead me toward enlightenment.

   gg.zaino - I'm sorry.  I seem to have been unclear.  This was not a question about suicide, but rather about the altruistic acts of soldiers and some parents who risk their lives for their children.

   I'm ex-military and would risk my life to defend the Constitution of the United States. Certainly given the direction of the country and given the socialistic path, one needs to be prepared to actually fight against the country in order to protect the ideals set forth under the Constitution. So fighting for country is more accurately fighting for the basic ideals set forth, such as inalienable rights of man that a moral ethical country is founded on.
   
   Therefore, I'm willing to die to secure the rights of men, women and children to live free in the future. Because life without liberty is merely existing. Freedom is the essential factor in living life, regardless of what one deems to be living a fulfilling life.
   
   The real question is not so much whether or not you are willing to die (which is easy), but rather do you have the intestinal fortitude and intellectual conviction to stand tall on your principles and kill for what you believe in?

   As far as dying, I wrote a blank check to The United States Of America years ago when I took a solemn oath.  That checks still good.

   Dying is not an experience you will have a chance to remember, to reflect on or write about. It is true to say that in the moment of an extreme danger, when we are about to loose our precious life, our senses are very sharp and we experience everything more clearly and more richly than ever before....and yet it is still the experience of the living soul not the dead one:)
