The individual in the White House does not control all the variables that affect the ability of the U.S. to remain a world power. Our Congress has done major damage to this country's economy, and continues to do so. The inability of the two parties to work together for the good of the country and its people is not a good sign. Apparently, partisan in-fighting and pleasing special interests that fund political campaigns is more important than the good of the country and its citizens.
What is more important than any other factor is that average Americans should refuse to keep buying inferior and unsafe imports (from China, other Asian countries and Mexico) and start a grassroots campaign to force politicians to bring back manufacturing to the USA.
That action, and our government not starting aggressive wars BUILT ON LIES and that we can't win, but at the tremendous cost of lives, gargantuan amounts of money and destroying our image with other countries are the only routes to the USA regaining its economy, strength and place in the worldview.
ANY politician who doesn't agree with this plan should NOT be elected or reelected, regardless of party. However, now that the (also partisan) Supreme Court passed that insane law allowing huge corporations to be considered "individuals", they and their moneybags decide everything that happens in the USA.
Our downhill plunge began with Nixon "opening the door" to trade with China, and the one-sided trade agreements that give China and other countries all the power while taking it away from the USA. Then, Reagan, whom people practically deify for all the wrong reasons, encouraged carmakers to move their plants just across the Texas border to Mexico. Manufacturing jobs have been steadily outsourced ever since until the USA has no manufacturing base left.
Average Americans need to wake up and start thinking about the important issues before voting for anyone! It's STILL the economy, stupid...not the social issue "hot buttons" pushed by extremist idealogues just to get votes so they can continue their agenda of keeping the ultra wealthy (who fund their coffers) ultra wealthy!
I usually try not to be controversial on HubPages, but in this instance, I really don't care who dislikes what I wrote. The USA still pretends to be a democracy, so I have a right to my own opinion.
