Can anyone please explain the Obama health plan?
If not can you provide a website that can. I am a little worried at how it may impact our family when it kicks in. At what income are you requird to pay for healthcare? We have several family members who can not afford to buy healthcare. Is there a certain pay that it starts at or is it varied based on the number in a family? All I find on the internet is a lot of rhetoric and not a lot of real info. Help?
I do know it will expand Medicaid to cover a lot more people, so if any family members are low income they should be able to be covered under that. Medicaid is not bad - I had it when I was younger and it was the best health care I ever received - imagine that. Anyway, the law will mandate that you do carry health coverage or be fined. If you are unable to pay the fine, the govt will take your tax return to cover it so there is no escape. Everyone is required to have coverage period, regardless of income level etc., which is why so many are opposed because nothing has really been put in place to ensure that the insurance companies will not gouge everyone. They are also no longer allowed to deny coverage due to pre-existing conditions and some other good parts to the law. This ensures that everyone (in theory) CAN actually be covered - if they have the money.
The idea was this system was supposed to lower costs by making everyone participate - everyone then is mandated to be responsible to carry insurance etc. and with everyone participating, in theory (but not in actuality most likely) medical care costs should be more affordable for everyone.
Hopefully there will be enough competition among insurance companies to find reasonable rates, but if today's rates are any indication, particularly for those who are self-employed, I am not optimistic at ever having a tax return again
Fantastic answer. Something many don't realize as well, is that along with the "plummeting costs" there is a plummet in quality of care that patients receive when systems like this are universalized.
I disagree with you on the quality of care aspect - most socialized countries do provide excellent affordable care. I don't believe the corporatized version of Universal care is going to work. We should just have universal care IMO.
It's a plan that used to be supported by several republicans but now who are against exactly the same plan.
I only know part of the Obama plan. The part about a woman who becomes pregnant. If a doctor is aware that his patient is pregnant, he must tell the state who will then send a social worker to view the surroundings of the child's upbringings. Is the area safe, will they have what they need, etc.
You only find retoric and no real info because it is so massive even Obama supporters and the congressmen and women who passed it don't understand what is in it.
Peeples there not is not enough room to even try and begin to explain the Health care plan. ONE THING I DO KNOW The myth that it is free is false.
No one, not even Obama or Congress knows everything that is in it...Pelosi admitted this.
What is in it is an unConstitutional overreach of the federal government. Both the (D) and (R) side of the equation was wrong for supporting it, but many fewer (R) did.

Can anyone explain the Affordable Care Act to me?I was honestly going to make a Hub about this, asking this very question, and I had written 800 something words on the subject. Ok actually it's more like a mild rant, but I think this would be better as a Hubpages question rather than a Hub that no...

Does anyone out there have a better idea to replace Obama care? I think the states need to take care of their own and Governors collectively need to come up with ideas to replace it instead on sitting on their behinds letting the federal government take over to make a mess of things. I heard...

I have been retired for five years and since Obama Care has been in effect, I have realized significant changes in my medicare plan. My out of pocket drug costs are much lower now. The donut hole is closing and will be closed in 2014. (That's the amount insurance pays up to limit and...

From the What Else is New Department...The Obama White House left open the possibility Sunday that the president would break a campaign promise and raise taxes on people earning less than $250,000 to support his health care overhaul agenda. White House adviser David Axelrod said the administration...
