    Is the United States headed towards political ruin?

    Alexander Fraser Tytler stated:

    "A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy."

    With movements such as the Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street, how likely is it that the United States as we know it will fall apart in the near future?

    The US has been a social ruin for decades. It has fallen into political ruin now. It's rapidly becoming an economic one, too. The national state will fight it all the way down, using all means at its disposal, wreaking death and destruction on America and the rest of the world, before it falls apart. That's its future, though. Everything has been liquidated, including faith in the nation. There's nothing left to hold it together.

    Oh, despite the gloom and doom, being spread around the old barnyard, I think this is a reslient country and we have a long way to go. America has weathered much worse than this (1929 & WW II for instance) and will keep on being not perfect by any means, but the best place to be alive in the 21st century.

    Freedom seldom ends in a sudden cataclysm; it erodes over a long period of time. Sudden events happen in novels, not in real life. The erosion of freedom in America is a reality. We are becoming like Europe, where we see people torching cars in protest over a change in retirement age from 60 to 62. As our liberty fades, our politics will become increasingly centrist.
