Is the presidential election a popularity contest?
Am I the only one that feels the presidential election is more of a popularity contest? Should it really be about who we like, or who will get the job done? Shouldn't the President have skills that will help our country instead of just be liked by the people? Shouldn't we look at the skill-sets of the candidates and measure them against what our country needs? What's your opinion?
I think you're right in what you say--that it should be about leadership and the issues our nation faces. But often lesser elements take center-stage. It reveals how detached many, if not most, Americans are to the political process--and partly due to the shenanigans deriving from politicians themselves.
Unfortunately it is and has been since the beginning of our nation to a degree. Much more so since the advent of television. Our current President is a clear example. Even if you are someone whom loves him and his policies. Anyone of any degree of intellctual honesty would have to admit that it is clear he stepped into the job with the least amount of qualifications of any president in american history. He is a great speaker and that along with a crisis in 2008 swept him into office. But the reality is he had little experience doing anyting other than voting Yes, No, or present in the State and US Senate. That is a far cry from executive experience running anything public or private. That could be said about alot of members of congress for that matter. However, many of them have had great success in various other fields. Personally I think it shows with the President. Some would disagree and may think he has done a wonderful job. But in 2008 he could have walked into nearly any room in the country and not been the most qualfiied person to hold the office. Yet he looked great on TV
I agree, LandmarkWealth. I don't understand how so many are blinded and think that he's such a good candidate. I think all elections are somewhat popularity based, but since 2008's election it is much worse. Thank you for your input! Best ~ fitmom
Even for those that may agree with him politically speaking, they'd have to admit his resume going in was as thin as anyone who ever held the job.

I am not saying that none of the candidates gathered the 207 electorate votes. I am just stating that a majority of the US citizens vote blank. Will the majority rule?

Who do you feel will win the 2012 Presidential election?I want to make it clear that this isn't necessarily the same thing as who you want to win. I am more curious who you feel will win and why you feel they will win.
