What do you think of Glenn Beck's idea on operating on his own channel on tv?. Do not get me wrong, I'm not asking your opinion of his political views. What I am asking is if you think breaking off from the mainstream media is a good idea in general.

Great idea as long as he broadcasts from Neptune. Seriously, you've got radical newscasts and propaganda on both ends of the political spectrum already. One more loud mouth won't make any difference. All I really want is hard news, not spin. At least Jon Stewart and Colbert let you know that what they're doing is satire. The rest attempt to pass off farce as reality. Beck's new channel? It doesn't matter because he doesn't matter.

If it hasn't worked too well for Oprah, I strongly doubt it will work for Beck...but, one never knows what can happen these days!!

I say go for it, no one will watch it anyway and the ones who do most likely don't vote anyway. It's his time and money, waste away

I wouldn't necessarily disagree with breaking away from mainstream media.  However, I don't believe he has done it for the reason of "educating" people.  He talks a lot about getting the truth out, but it is more about the money to him.  He didn't break away from mainstream media to educate and inform, but for the almighty dollar.  This is, in my opinion, what ruined the media and turned it into interest based journalism.  Just created his channel to spread more interest based news and not get the truth out.  Thus, wasting more of my time and my money, if I were to purchase his channel.

Oh, poor Glenn.  The man obviously did not quit drinking soon enough.  Quite obviously the booze did it's number on his brain cells before he chose to get sober.   Nice guy, probably a good husband and father..but he needs to get off the airwaves before they come pick him up and wrap him in a straightjacket and literally cart his crazy a$$ off the set.   Bless his struggle, but he's just another cuckoo bird.

Has he stated a reason he thinks he should own his own channel?

In what is he going to break off from the mainstream media? The mainstream media is conservative and neoliberal economically speaking. Everybody knows about his irrational interpretation of economics and politics. His move is a logic continuation to his increase of power and audience. What does it say about the American audience? Simply that it is uneducated! I never understood how people can listen to his pseudo economical "lessons" without at least knowledge on the subject! If they did, they would understand the extent of his divagation!

Preposterous to the point of self actualization. Meaning that he makes me feel like anyone can succeed.

Good luck. Oprah has had trouble with her network and I am sure she is more popular.
