This is NOT a stupid question.
There are different kinds of pride, and different degrees of it.
When we are proud of our children's accomplishments, or our own, it is a good and positive thing that promotes more of the same. Everyone wants others (family and friends) to be proud of their accomplishments.
When we view pride as 'ego' and pride ourselves on being better than others without rationality, then it becomes a bad thing.
The old saying: "pride comes before the fall" has value and merit and is 'generally' true. When a person, their religion, or governments believe they are better than others they set themselves and others up for failure and promote those who think the same way to attack those they feel are inferior to them.
There is no "sin" in being proud, but there is harm to self and others in having "false pride in one's self, or organization they represent.
So, to answer your question: it is both yes and no. Those who pride themselves unreasonably do not know they are being obnoxious and harmful. Those who pride themselves on their children, or their accomplishments, give themselves the honor they truly deserve.
