Agreed. This is an extension of what I was trying to say in my response. Sometimes, if there are not canidates worth voting for, not voting is the better option.

In Australia we can register as a 'conscientious' objector (usually on religious grounds), but other means re available. If people choose not to vote, they should be on a register so that someone cannot vote in their name, as does happen.

is there an option "none of the above" or "unable to decide"? surely forced voting doesnt remove apathy but has people just putting anything!
3 years might actually be good. 5 lets power go to peoples head a bit & it takes longer to get rid of n
