I like to express myself by writing and it gives me pleasure if people read and give their feedback, after reading my work. It is a hobby for me in the first place. Though HubPages gives an opportunity to make money as well, which I have not made so far. May be I have a long way to go. Meanwhile, I enjoy reading good content here, as there are some excellent writers here, writing on various subjects of my interest. So much at one place...I think I am at the right place.

Priority one in writing for HubPages is improving my craft, making myself a better writer today than I was yesterday. And yes, if by "just writing" you mean writing as a goal unto itself; I am a writer, therefore, I write!
Sure, I'd like to make a few bucks now and then from writing, and HP helps somewhat with that, My main monetary goal, however, is from writing ebooks.
Exploring different topics, fun, joy and etc., that's all part of it, too. But bottom line for me in terms of writing hubs is continuing education and training.

To improve my writing as well as to get experience with the online world. Also I like how HubPages makes it easy to nicely format your articles.

Not a specific money goal. But yes I do hope to see if I can earn any money from this site. It's actually really interesting to me to see how people can earn money from ads and I'm having fun learning about that process.

I like being transparent with total strangers.  HubPages is a community of strangers getting to know one another through their love of words.

Obviously, though, when I began writing here I did not look at it that way - I just wanted to share my work and get feedback to determine whether I am a credible writer.  I've written a novel that has been difficult to pitch and snag an agent with.  I thought that seeing how people respond to my style would help me to identify what sort of marketability my novel would have by my HubPages' works and their popularity.  However, it is unfair for me to think that way since publishers do everything they can to ensure that books do well enough to justify publication.

I'm pretty sure that I am an acquired taste, so I don't worry much about what I set out to determine any more.  I just enjoy reading and writing here now, and seeing what modern man is thinking about... or if modern man thinks much at all.

I have ideas that I feel need to be placed where they can eventually or immediately be stumbled upon.  I am a visual artist, so I know that my observations are quite different from traditions and conventions which still seem to hold sway either here, or there depending.  I study the Bible a great deal, for instance, and I focus on doing so independent of authorities to see if my conclusions are similar to ordained men and women, or PhD level theologians.  To me, a great way of determining veracity of something is to compare it with others' findings.  What pairs well is probably most likely to be the case... so I write in this fashion often enough because I sense some interesting things.  Sharing thoughts on matters of faith is of paramount importance to and for all.

Ultimately, I am here because the world out there is getting old the newer it gets.  Quite frankly, chicken little was onto something...  Here to see who else knows that.

I've written quite a bit in the "real" world.  I used to write a column and I've written books but I hadn't really tried the "cyber" world.  Being here has been a great awakening and I have really been here to learn new things.  Now that I have learned most of what I came here for, I now enjoy being here more for the community than in the beginning.  In the beginning, it was about learning how to write online.  Now, it's about using those new skills and being more interactive in the community.  I have learned a fair amount and I feel really blessed by the hubbers here who have shown me the way!
