There is a significant difference. The Global Cooling predictions did not have scientific consensus, and were just few media stories in places like Newsweek. Global Warming predictions have achieved scientific consensus, with some dissenters.
I am not impressed by consensus Rock_nj.
centuries ago the consensus was the sun goes round a flat earth.
A few decades ago the consensus was the world is cooling
A few years ago the consensus was that there would be no recession.
Actually back in 1975 the consensus was we were facing global cooling. I remember the environmental movement well back then. It was way more than a few stories. It was the top scientists with the NOAA to start.
I am not saying that science never gets thing wrong. I wrote a Hub asking whether Global Warming Has Stopped? However, the fact is there was no consenus (majority) of scientists saying the world was cooling, whereas there is now re: global warming.
there is no consensus today either. http://www.petitionproject.org/
With all due respect, you appear to not understand the meaning of the word "consensus". Yes, there are some strong dissenters, but majority of scientists are in general agreement, which makes it a consensus. This did not exist with global cooling.
No the majority of people who get publicity agree. Ofcourse as we know from the east anglia emails, they also had to massage their data to make it fit their political agenda. Hardly following the scientific method.
Thank you for your opinon on this matter. If you go by published scientific papers, which is the only true measure of scientific consensus, you will understand what the consensus on the matter of global warming is and global cooling was in the 70s.
I have. My cousin is an enironmental engineer. He has made me well aware of how his colleagues manipulate data for gov't grants. Without the proper results the politicians turn off the money supply.
