The Confederate Flag is part of our history, a tragic part in some ways, an awakening in other ways. I personally opposed the displaying of the Confederate flag in their yards and I certainly object to racist organizations and the use of the Confederate flag. However, the First Amendment guarantees the right to free speech. So while I may not support the views of those who would like to see a separate confederate nation and lament that the south lost the Civil Way, I would not attempt to deney those people the right to express their views. I just would not agree.
The Confederate flag has some significance. It represented people who either believed in the individual rights of the state, believed in slavery or both. A horrible war, kept the nation in tact. Had we been divided into two countries, I do not know where we would be today So the Confederate flag should never be banned. It should not be celebrate or fly over public buildings, or used as a means to incite a riot. It should be recognized as a symbol and reminder of a tragic period in our history, where brother fought brother and the ultimate victory by the Union can be looked upon as one of the first steps of on the long and possibly never ending road of assuring equality for all people.
