Why is the Second Amendment important to you?

I find it amazing that the right to bear arms is important to so many Americans.  With all of the political and social issues that we need to address in our country today, why does the right to bear arms receive more attention than all of the other rights we have given up for the sake of security and saving peoples lives?  Should we not be more concerned about poverty, the homeless, our economy, creating jobs, and preserving human rights?

The attack on the second amendment or any one of them for that matter , is simply the easiest target of the simple liberal mindset !  Liberals love to bash tradition ,  traditionalists love to use the origional constitution as a tool ,  I would go so far as to say that the slowly increasing  chokehold on individual freedoms begins with this simple ammendment !   There are only twenty seven words to the second amendment and yet . Its the most liberally attacked of all the constitutional rights . And by the way , by using the first amendment to do so !

So why is the second amendment important to you?  This is not an answer to the question, it is only an assumption of my political stance and a confusing statement about losing individual freedoms.  I am not debating or advocating gun control.

The Second Amendment is there to insure your rights.  The rest of them spell out some of your essential rights for you.  I have a saying that I use often enough.  The Second Amendment was put right behind the First Amendment to insure that amendment remains intact.

The founders understood tyranny by a powerful central government.  You are now seeing it.  Don't recognize it huh?

So the importance of the second amendment to you is to prevent being ruled by a dictator?

If you equate tyranny to a dictaor then so be it.  I equate tyranny to an over reaching, all powerful central government.  I see it like the founding father's saw it.

Because the Second Amendment is a right we were granted by virtue of being a citizen of this country.  This right is extended to all who become legal citizens of this country.

Once lost, it could never be replaced.

We see many countries who are ruled by vicious and cruel dictators whom have absolute power over the citizens.  Dictators who gain vast wealth by stealing it from the people, and slaughtering those who get in his way.

The Second Amendment is our insurance policy this country will never be ruled by one of these dictators.

Let me add Mike that NOT owning a gun is as much of a right as owning one.

Excellent point Jim.  The Second Amendment also gives us the right to choose to not own a gun.

I find it very unfortunate that most of you live with your heads stuck in the sand.  The Second Amendment is there to protect against an over powering tyrannical government.  But of course our government only has high hopes and wants the best for citizens, right? I find it all completely absurd!

Here's the real question, why do so many of you side with Republicans, Democrats, Religion, Buddhism, Liberals, Aliens— or whatever it is you believe in.  You say you want more focus on poverty, creating jobs, and human rights, but it's your rigid beliefs that create the conflict seen in society today.  You automatically separate yourself from others because of your core beliefs. You think you're right, and other people who don't agree are wrong, you simply know better.  Isn't this what happened during the Spanish Inquisition or in Germany; The Third Reich?

Why Obama goes for guns, and sheds tears on national TV for the Sandy Hook victims— he simultaneously kills innocent people with the authorizing of drone bombings. Sen. Lindsey Graham put out a statement last month estimating that drones have killed over 4,700 people.  Isn't that Amazing!
Obama believes his views, his ideologies, are what's best for America, and apparently the whole entire world.  And guess what, he kills people who don't agree with his beliefs.  Explain that one?  Oh wait, I know, war is necessary to protect us from the evil "TERRORISTS."   We need to give up our guns and some of our freedoms (Patriot Act) so we will be safe.

More than 1,000 people die each year from falling down stairs.  Maybe we should ban stairs!  In Pittsburg, less than a week ago, a man walked into a Target store and started stabbing people.  Maybe we should ban knives!
Or maybe, we should deal with the sick society we have become.

Nahhh, that's way too difficult, much better to just take the guns, put cameras everywhere, drones will monitor skies, and we'll put black boxes on all new cars to track and tax citizens.  What we really need is more people on psychiatric drugs! Let's go ahead and make sure drug companies automatically have the go-ahead on all new drugs with limited testing.  Let's put Aspartame in gum, drinks, food, hell, let's just put it in everything along with fluoride.  Oh wait, our government has already done these things! And you are worried about gun rights lol.

You wrote a great response without ever answering the question.  What does the second amendment mean to you?  Can you answer the question without using political arguments and assumptions that I am an anti-gun bleeding heart liberal?

actually, only around half of Americans today own guns. But the second amendment, while possibly not as important as others, but it allows us to defend ourselves on the instance that nobody else is there to defend us. While there are much more important things in the world than the right to keep a weapon at your side, just imagine if you were being attacked in a dark alley, with nobody around to help you. if you fought back, the 2nd amendment creates the justification of "self defense"

of course, this is just how I feel on the subject.

I am a bit confused about your response.  How does it answer the question of how the right to own a gun is important to you?

Politicians can't solve the economic issues, create jobs, and limit poverty/homelessness. Don't get me started on world wide human rights. The state gets involves when it's assets in the region are in trouble. Other than that, a state wouldn't get involved. Having people debate this issue gets the attention away from the real issues.
My work in the security and military teaches me that the best security is the individual's mind: learning to recognize potential dangers, can avoid conflicts/de-escalate them, isn't too emotional and know the basics of using improvised weapons (to include firearms). Want someone else to provide for your security? Then prepare to pay something back in return.

Having had to use a gun and my right to own and carry one makes it more personal to me.
You list numerous other problems that you think should be taking center stage. What I don't see is any connection to keeping a strong 2nd Amendment and addressing those other concerns.
Why should we give up one of our important rights to deal with others?
Maybe we should give up out right to live where we want within out own country in order to combat those things?
How about we give up the right to free speech so we don't have to hear more than one point of view?

Great comment, your points are well taken.  I support the second amendment, I was curious about why it appears that debating an amendment that has not been touched as of yet is getting more attention than other rights that are being reduced or taken.

It is because of the effort being made to touch it.
Don't get me wrong I feel terrible when things like the recent shooting happen but restricting honest gun owners isn't going to change anything.
Better to address why they happened rather than how.

Should we give up that right like we have so many others in recent years? How would that be a good thing?

Each of the Bill of Rights and the Constitution were written with government abuses in mind -- preventing them!

Some very sneaky politicians and their corporate partners have created a perfect fascism that has eroded that Bill of Rights and the Constitution starting at least as long ago as 1913 -- with the creation of the private Federal Reserve profit-making bank, the establishment of the income tax amendment with questionable legality (some say it was never fully approved), and the founding of the Rockefeller Foundation.

Okay, let's look at it differently.

You mention a lot of important problems in society and compare it to the 2nd Amendment.

What if you had to choose between having air and having water or having food. Really, you can't live without all 3. So, choosing one is not an option. You need to choose all 3. See what I mean?

Someone is selfishly eroding the foundations of this nation. Whether or not it is a conspiracy is irrelevant. Their actions are treasonous -- from the President to nearly every member of Congress and to the Supreme Court. We have a corrupt government. The few who know better cannot fight against the machine.

We need to walk away from this corruption and start anew.

Already, the President has started removing officers from the military who would follow the Constitution instead of the President on matters of law and protecting the rights of American citizens. What does the President have in mind that he will keep only criminal officers in his military? What crimes does he have in mind? The next 2-3 years will tell. But by then it may be too late to do anything about it.

Our only hope is in not reacting to the stimuli the corporate-government agents of chaos throw at us. Their False Flag operations have cause too much damage already. Ignore them. Stick to our founding principles, or be prepared to live in slavery.
