What does Feminism mean to you?

It seems that the definition of "Feminism" has been changing as people grow to recognize it in different ways. What does "Feminism" mean to you?

Yesterday it was a mean for women to become equal in the eyes of the government. Now it is a mean for special rights and women to hold them selves not equal but above men.

      Sheldon,
What sort of special rights do you mean?

I have a quite negative reaction to the word.  Though I think it is good that everyone be treated equal I think often feminism leads to men being treated with lesser value.  I also really like the old fashioned chivalry of men minding their language around ladies and opening doors etc.

      Hannah,
What is it that made you associate "Feminism" with negativity?

I think that there is a whole lot of confusion and negativity when it comes to Feminism and this causes women to revert to the overpowering side of the scale instead of finding a happy medium within the meaning. It seems like a lot of those who are more spiteful of men, demeaning towards men, and who have some sort of hatred for men are those who have been burned by men in one way or another. I think the whole meaning of Feminism has taken on an entirely different meaning than was intended when the Feminist movement began, although some self proclaimed feminists like Taylor Swift, Jon Hamm, Emma Watson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Beyoncé, Will Smith, Mindy Kaling, Ashton Kutcher, and many many more are slowly showing the true facts of feminism. Lacy Green, a well known Youtube star who actually got her own MTV web series, talks about feminism in her video "Is Bob's Burgers A Feminist Masterpiece?" and she SLAYS the meaning of Feminism and why it is so important to understand the meaning of the MOVEMENT (not the definition of the word).

I've always taken feminism as "equal treatment for women". So, if you believe men and women should be treated equally, you're a feminist. Anyone who suggests feminism is about female superiority over men is misinterpreting the movement. Much like with all groups and factions, the loudest tend to be the extremists.
