Wow, I wish you would have wrote a hub for this. Thoroughly enjoyed reading your answer!
So, you think only those at the bottom rung of the ladder are supporting Sanders?
You don't see middle class and wealthy at Sanders gatherings?
If not, where's he getting the money to run his campaign?
No "american" spirit left anymore?

You obviously do not see the principles of freedom to do what I want with my money.
Where did you come up with the idea that the government is a good caretaker?
If you want a nanny to tell you how to live, that's fine.
Don't tell me how to live.
"Where did you come up with the idea that the government is a good caretaker?" While I don't think we need more government in our business we need to change the things they are doing to better things similar to those countries who prove it is better!
If you look at countries that are "doing things better", they're broke.
They've promised much, but cannot tax enough to support their welfare goals.
Money always is better in the hands that produced the labor to get it.
It's called "freedom"
It is called Freedom John because most people can't identify with Capitalism. it is called Capitalism. Capitalism is selfish by it's nature and Socialism is unselfish by it's nature.

When a government steals your money to give to another person, it's not a "cheap characterization"
By steal, I mean forcing, at gun point and with threats of inhumane treatment is no different than dealing with the Mafia.
The idea that you should keep every cent you earn is stupid. You drive on roads and across bridges. When you call 911, police and fire answer. Your community has public schools. You are obligated to support those services for all, not just for you.
I'm not obligated, as a free man, to do anything.
Your assumption that you know best, is wrong.
If you want a nanny to tell you what to do with your life, hire one.
I am capable of handling my life and money without a corrupt governments "help".
Nobody wants nanny states, corrupt governments, or theft at gunpoint. Your arguments are pure strawmen. Your only real choice as a free man is to live alone or with others. If you choose to live with others than you do have obligations.
Don't kill stupid people (or anyone, if it comes to it)
Don't tell other people what to do.
Respect others property and rights.
Those are my obligations.
Other than that, it's robbery by a fascist government.
So, you'd be okay with a government that did nothing but enforce those things you listed?
What other jobs does a government have?
To think government knows how to spend my money better than I do is amazing.
Who ever thought that some bought off politician is going to keep my interests?
Talk about an idiotic idea!
Yes for your answer
I think a lot of people would say that the gov's job is carrying out the will of the people. And I don't think it is about spending better, it is about what can be accomplished by the collective that can't be accomplished alone.

M. T. Dremer says
Yes it do, don't it?
Wonder what happened to the independent, free thinking, free will thinking people that built the country?
Socialism's not for me.
Don't need no gov. telling me how to live nor who I should give my money to.
Out of here......

I have never met anyone, who sticks a gun to my head and says, "Give me your money so I can give it to this guy", is caring about people.
Your assumption that the government knows how to handle my money better than I do is wrong.
You have an obligation to society to ensure that its people are fed, educated, have health care, and are paid a living wage. Since you're not taking care of that, the government does. Otherwise, we have "I've got mine, to hell with the rest of you."
Since when is that "obligation" turned over to the government?
Since when was it not a "I've got mine, and there's no fricken way the government has the right to take my money."
Where did this idiotic concept that government knows best come from?
You have it backwards. You have that money because your government allows you to keep some of what you earn. Some of it goes to the good of the society in which you live. You have an obligation to ensure your countrymen aren't poor, stupid, or dead.
It has also been the downfall of all Western Democracies.
As long as evil is in the world, we need a military as strong as it can be so that it will defend democracy.
Then we need to take care of folks that CAN'T take care of themselves, not WONT
The government "allows me"?
That is about as fascist a statement as I've ever heard.
The government does not "allow" anything.
We, as citizens, are supposed to "allow" the government to exist.
You have no understanding of the rule of law..
And you have an overdeveloped sense of entitlement. You should read a little more history, and see what happens when governments ignore those who have nothing.
Not a form of 'entitlement", it's called an inalienable right.
My responsibilities are not for you to determine.

Government employment was never supposed to be a well paid position. After all, it's "service" to your country.
Socialism at it's finest - those telling us what to do get paid more - because they work for the socialist government.
