It's a difficult question to answer.
I don't know why I should be voting for either Democrat or Republican. No candidate has made him or herself really that distinguishable from the next, except for Trump, and well, he just sounds like an idiot.
I think this is indicative of the state of stagnation of Politics in this country. Or maybe its just the apathy toward the rotating list of boring, fake and puppet-faced politicians that are put in front of us.
I'm happy we live in a country where there is freedom to vote for the leader of our nation. There are certain aspects I look for in the leader I cast my vote for, namely, views on foreign policy and ideas for fixing our economy. This election I believe the candidate that addresses some of glaring social issues this country is facing (racial divisiveness and public violence) will take the election. But as with all politicians, they can still say one thing and readily do another.
We have rarely held our leaders accountable for what they do wrong and to ask them to hold themselves accountable is unrealistic. My fear becomes that no matter who is put in office, some things will get done, some things will get undone and we end the next term being no better off that when the last person left office.
That being said, I have been happy with Barack Obama. Not with everything but with most things. He has done what he could and tried to restore this country to a respectable status. I am happy this country elected a leader of color and showed something to the rest of the world by doing so.
Yet, if we want real change something societal needs to shift. Starting with but not limited to, better people joining the political arena. This too is a challenge because people and groups are money motivated. On the ground level this means little guys with big ideas get squeezed out by big guys with more money and more backers.
I can't answer your question Cid. I don't know who can lead this country in a better direction other than the American public itself. And most of them are more concerned with their Facebook status, the Kardashian's, and Netflix to really care what's going on in their own country.
