It hasn't been that long, so why wouldn't Trump still be a candidate so long as he doesn't flunk out? There is still about a year and 2 weeks or so before the election and lots will happen in that time. In the mean time the comedy shows like S&L and Comedy Central are getting tons of material.
There is no such thing as a substantive answer from any of the candidates at this juncture. None of them know any more than those of us who make an effort to keep up with what's going on, so nothing they say has any relevance regarding what they would do. Only the president elect will be privy to the same briefings the sitting president gets and actually be informed about what is happening and where. What needs to be addressed, etc.
No matter what a candidate says, whether for president or senator, or anything else, none of them will be elected as a dictator. None of them can do what they say they will without cooperation from the majority of congress. Not even the president.
If a person is informed about the party platforms then they will have a good idea of what an elected official will do depending on their party affiliation. Why would anyone join a party or any other organization if they didn't agree with what it stands for? Elected officials tow the party line (platform) and keep their party happy if they want to keep their jobs.
Occasionally an elected official tries to do something different than what their party wants them to, and they are the ones whose names you can't usually remember because they don't stay long enough to stick in our minds. Blanche Lincoln is one who went against her party and does anyone even remember her? Arlen Spector was with us a long time, but when he started getting independent minded, even switched parties, it was bye-bye Arlen. These are only 2 of many examples.
What a person says they will do and what they do when they are finally faced with a decision about something and with all of the facts about the situation, is often very different. So what does it matter what Trump or Carson, or Sandes or Clinton say they will do if Jupiterians attack the planet Earth? They will do the expedient thing depending on the facts of the situation once it presents itself, and what their party tells them is the best solution.
