I respectfully think that the question is the root cause of the problem in DC.
The democrats and the republicans are almost diametrically opposed to the goals of each other. And that makes it impossible for there to be any real compromises, and the win goes to the party that has control, or more likely to issue becomes gridlocked.
The question should be to all the voters as to what they want from a president, and then which candidate comes closest to answering the question.
Loyal party voters don't elect the best candidate, they elect who they think is the party that is offered to them by their party.
A tradition that hasn't bode well for the country or the people.
