Yes there needs to be a freeze on immigration until we are back down to 5% REAL unemployment. When you have 10% of adults unemployed (including those who shifted to SSDI after long term unemployment ran out) and another 10% unwillingly working only part time, yes, no more immigrants until we have essentially full employment.
Regarding future immigration, we should give preference for those who served us overseas - like the Arabic speaking translators we essentially abandoned in Syria and Iraq who risked their lives helping our soldiers. In that regard, loyalty should trump high skill.
I do say no to open doors to unskilled labor. Illegal aliens inflate the ranks of the unskilled and demonstrably pulled down wages for the working class, with black men displaced in the workforce by Hispanic men for multiple reasons as a result of mass immigration (legal and illegal) from Mexico and Central America.
