What will be the backlash on Hillary publicly calling Trump supporters a basket of deplorables?

At a fundraiser Hillary calls Trump supporters a “basket of deplorables” made up of “racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic” people.  Like Mitt Romney making the infamous 47% statement, Clinton is directly criticizing American citizens.

This isn't a normal election, this isn't about Conservative vs Liberal or Rep vs Dem.

No matter how much effort people here on Hubpages, or in America, who are vested into one side or another spend typing arguments for one political viewpoint or another... this isn't about those issues for the majority of voters who will turn out this year.

This is first and foremost an election about Establishment VS Non-Establishment.

Why is that you ask?  How do I know this?

It is simple, all those voters who came out in 2010 and again in 2014 to elect all those Republicans to specifically do away with Obamacare and move the nation back toward the Center... they will be out again in 2016, in more numbers than ever (especially now that Obamacare has really begun to bend them over).

Those people who voted all those Reps (and Ind) Congressmen in to do away with Obamacare are fed up with Washington, the lies, the promises that are ignored once they get into office... and this can be expanded into the workforce, the tens of millions who lost their jobs, or their pensions, or the former college students looking for real opportunity in the workforce... there are plenty of discontent people.

What we have in this election, is a candidate that won the Republican nomination, in historic fashion, with record setting support, despite unheard of resistance from the inner members and funders of the GOP.

And on the other side, we have a candidate that could not truly defeat her singular opponent, despite that he was 75, none to charismatic (no one would mistake him for John Kennedy), and was being sabotaged by the Dem party (much like Trump was by the Reps).

The people, young and old, whatever you want to label them, liberal, conservative, etc.... have been voting overwhelmingly against the establishment on both sides.

This doesn't come down to who the people will vote for... they are going to vote the anti-establishment, anti-Obamacare, pro-American candidate.

What remains to be seen, is if those votes even matter... or is this all just a show, and even if Clinton only gets 40% of the vote,  will she still be 'elected' President?

This is the best, objective answer. Why do so many peeps feel such a violent need to dis the other side when we can all see why NONE of us are happy. Name one. We distrust ALL our leaders; and are thoroughly SICK of watching them play these games.

She's already backpedaling and apologizing - too late I feel because now she looks like she's pandering ( Mitt could never shake it even after apologizing)

      Ralph
You would think it would but remember Obama in 2008 said some bad things and Hillary called him on it, but he won anyway.
PC is unilateral and the source is on the left, and their is no return to the left.

That was pretty stupid of her. She really doesn't like conservatives or anyone that opposes her  even in the Democrat side. So the easiest thing for Hillary to do is call them names. Its always the fallback for leftists anyway.
Hey take a moment to read my latest hub I'll follow you if you follow me! Thanks!

The left has already used all these insults to label the right, so it isn't going to move the needle much. They already state outright that all conservatives are either stupid, ignorant (need to be educated), irrational (haters or -phobic) or evil.
That isn't true, but it lets them brand themselves as peace, love, tolerant, rational. Unfortunately, they wrap themselves in that label while attacking the right verbally or even physically for daring to continue to express their views or have private gatherings where "evil conservatives are sharing their hate".
The people in the name of love and tolerance who sent hate mail to a private school near us that declined admission to a lesbian's daughter so they could continue to teach traditional marriage without conflict for the child or being forced to change teachings (or get sued for said emotional conflict for one child) comes to mind. The threats from several so called advocates for love saw no irony in threatening to burn down a school with 200 children inside in the name of fighting hate. When your definition of tolerance can't tolerate private cultural enclaves teaching their values and your definition of love is threatening mass murder, you're just fascists with good branding.

Very one-sided. I've heard rants from Conservatives about Liberals that would curl your toes. Everyone has blinders on: and that is the way all leaders want things; cuz when we're arguing for 1 side or the other, we're profitable & controllable.

Ralph.....Tell me please,  What has been any sort of "backlash" on Hillary for anything she has said or neglected to say, anything she has ever done or not done in any of her political positions, her irresponsible, reckless (illegal) email fiasco, for lying to the faces of the family members of Benghazi victims, being deeply involved with pay for play via the Clinton foundation, or any of the too-numerous-to-list games she plays, lies she tells & let's not forget the dozens of insiders who have publicly stated she throws  the "N" word around like it's a tennis ball, treats the Secret Service like they're dirt....and for more information one can possibly handle, read Dick Morris's book, "Armageddon"   That book will blow the top of your head off.
I'll wait for your reply to my question.....about the non-existent "backlash.

The Clintons have lied to the American public for so long that Hillary, at this point, thinks we will believe anything she has to say, no matter how big a lie!
