Yes, world poverty is more important than terrorism. I don't know that poverty is a cause of terrorism so much as people who are watching their kids starve to death are desperate for that to change.
However, there are a couple of things to consider. First, you create allies by building common interests. Economics self interest is one of the strongest motivations known to man. So a shared set of economic values creates allies. Second, states with a healthy economy have the resources and self interest for strong law and order - i.e. they won't and can't tolerate serious crime let alone terrorism. Finally, people with jobs, homes, stereos, and dreams for their kids have something to lose. Again these are the type of people who can't afford to tolerate serious/rampant crime or terrorism.
