Spending was out of control before Obama came to Washington. It has gotten worse under Obama, but we do have an opposition party in power now that can pass their own budgets and challenge his spending proposals.
I am happy with the change Obama has brought to the Presidency. For one thing, being a WASP is no longer a prerequisite for being the President of the United States. That is part of the realization of the American dream, that anyone no matter who they are can achieve anything in our country. Much better than the sad state of racial affairs in America when I grew up.
I am also happy that Obama has focused some spending (not nearly enough) on our own country. Bush's policy of spending tens of Billions on Iraq was completely insane. There are infrastructure projects in my state that sat for decades uncompleted until Obama's stimulus money funded them. I also like the fact that he is embracing trains, alternative propulsion for vehicles, and alternative fuels. We really need all three of these, as oil consumption will outstrip supply (peak oil) now matter how much we drill for it.
If there is one thing I am unhappy with Obama about, it is his warmongering. If we wanted a warmonger, we could have elected McCain. There seems to be little, if any, difference between the Republicans and Democrats on foreign policy. It's war mongering all around. It is this empire building that is really balloning our deficit. Social Securiy, Medicare, and Medicaid have been and will be in the black for years.
