Is Arizona’s new immigration law racist and should they be boycotted?

I believe it is a racist law and may lead to not only those who are ethnically Hispanic being treated unjustly, but all people that do not fit Arizona’s white Christian population. And they should be boycotted, it is just a racist ploy.

Hooray for Arizona.  It's about time that someone did something to stop the epidemic of scurrying cucarachas infesting the U.S.

Mexico is a failed country due to a failed culture.  Their institutions and religion have set them up for failure.  The U.S. does not need to become Nuevo Mexico by having Mexican culture be adopted due to Mexican population overwhelming U.S. culture.

The 1986  federal  law is clear that anyone entering the US without the proper papers are breaking the law of the United States.
i don't believe that  the USSR, North Korea, China or any  other Communist  country  would tolerate foreigners entering the country without authorization. Prison, torture and maybe death would be their reward upon breaking their laws.
We are a nation of the rule of laws but '' let me be clear '',we need to practice equal justice   first before social justice for the American people. When we put SOCIAL JUSTICE before EQUAL JUSTICE, something is wrong.
Check the following out and tell me who is on the wrong track heading in the wrong direction.
The Constitution is the foundation of our government ,why is it that our elected public officials are actually co- breaking the law BY NOT ENFORCINGTHE  LAW.

SEC. 115. ENFORCEMENT OF THE IMMIGRATION LAWS OF THE UNITED STATES.
It is the sense of the Congress that --
    (1) the immigration laws of the United States should be enforced vigorously and uniformly, and
    (2) in the enforcement of such laws, the Attorney General shall take due and deliberate actions necessary to safeguard the constitutional rights, personal safety, and human dignity of United States citizens and aliens.
"(1)(A) The State shall require, as a condition of an individual's eligibility for benefits under any program listed in subsection (b), a declaration in writing by the individual (or, in the case of an individual who is a child, by another on the individual's behalf), under penalty of perjury, stating whether or not the individual is a citizen or national of the United States, and, if that individual is not a citizen or national of the United States, that the individual is in a satisfactory immigration status.

It is absolutely not racist. I agree with the top two posters. This law should be enforced.

If the federal government was doing their job Arizona would have never got to this point. The feds look the other way and when states start doing something to control the illegals then they have something to say. Mean while, both state and federal governments come down hard on employers for not policing their ranks when the boarder is wide open with a red carpet rolled out. The way I feel about it is issue everybody in Arizona a USA citizen card ,and card
everybody! The same way you card everybody for alcohol. If you've every been to Mexico city, you'll see everything from red hair to blonde to brown. Why take chances, treat everyone like cattle!

Ps. And what have you got against Christians? White or any other color!

No I don't think it is racist. It may be considered as profiling but I don't think its actually racist. What's wrong with having to carry an ID card or green card with you at all times? We Americans do it all the time and we get stopped or pulled over when we are acting suspicious, so why shouldn't they. And besides the influx has to stop somewhere.

I would ask you to see how Mexico treats ILLEGALS crossing its borders...(or for that matter those legally entering that they have 'shaken down'.)

Feel BLESSED Arizona is following the RULE OF LAW without the brutal injustice of Mexican or Central American law.

ps. would not like to have known even one of the more than 370 kidnapped in Phoenix in one year, this is a horrendous oversight by the federal government.  GO ARIZONA, we are behind you!

Then can you explain why Steve Montenegro, who was born in El Salvador, and a member of Arizona's legislature, voted for the bill?

How about WHICH part of the law can be construed as racist?

Well the fact of the matter is and I know this will not sit well, but are you ready for the truth.  The truth is the word Illegal is the key.

Why boycott?  I said what I wanted in my hub.  I can't understand.   Why can't the truth be told.  Become a citizen and your troubles are over just like all other people who have decided to live in America from some where else.

Yes, for the same reason the Fugitive Slave Law was racist in the 1850's. That law gave white slavers carte blanche to round up/capture ANY black person who they suspected as being a runaway slave (read: ANY black person, period) and sell tham back to slavery in the South.

Many free-born blacks were enslaved due to this law, and I'm afraid that Latinos who are in Arizona quite legally and were BORN there - or else where in the U.S. - will be stopped and harassed by cops demanding to see papers.

Despite what the supporters say, it will be open season on Arizonans of Latin descent. You watch.

No, it's not racist... It's modeled after the Federal law, and I don't know why the left is portraying it any differently! Enforce the Federal law and this law will only help to provide back-up for it!

For the revised SB1070-HB2162 then visit this site : http://azleg.gov/alispdfs/council/SB1070-HB2162.PDF  - the language about “contact” is replaced with a reference to “stop, detention or arrest.”

ICE, (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), program focuses on criminals who are "the worst of the worst." The 287(g) program is a key tool in its efforts to target suspected illegal immigrants with criminal records. Federal guidelines prevent arresting immigrants solely for being in the country illegally.

It isn't racist. It does apply to anyone that a police officer feels the need to check. It's not dissimilar to the checking of ID. Any officer in any jurisdiction can require you to provide proof of your identity, even if your not doing anything. And you can be held, legally, until they verify it. It's the same thing now, only with a federal immigration card. And if Mexicans are so concerned, maybe they should do something to stem the flow of illegal immigration.

As for boycotting Arizona, it won't actually change anything, except that the local business will be hurt. And what will they do? Layoff many of the undocumented workers first. So exactly what does that help. And it really is the business of the people of Arizona. They elected these people, they can vote them out if they chose. For the rest, its really none of your concern. Take care of your own states.

No Arizona's immigration law is not racist. No they should not be boycotted. It is the so-called "sanctuary cities" that should be boycotted.

    who say this new
immigration law is racist I don't think so because if the Arizona people come with their id card or good identity it can be said racist.  http://www.mynzimmigration.co.uk

No, the new law is not racist at all.  There need to be stringent rules and regulations regarding the issue of illegal immigration.  There need to be checks and balances.
