Should First Graders Be Issued Condoms?
On June 8, in Provincetown, Mass, the school board voted unanimously to provide condoms to ALL students without parental notification. The school's health advisory committee worried that children were becoming sexually active at younger ages and believed protection was the best policy. The superintendent of the school said she had only received one phone call complaining of the new policy.

I didn't read the story, but if my first grader came home with condoms the school would definately hear from me. Then I would seriously consider homeschool. Why do so many people want to take away innocense, in childhood.
Tina,
I heard this on the news the other day too. Unbelievable!
I think back at what my interests were through the 5th grade and sex just wasn't a part of it. I still played with Barbie dolls and interaction with boys was kickball in the street. I 'm sure I thought that boys still had cooties (sp) back then.
What a sad day in this country when our elementary students are so immersed into the sexual culture that condoms are a concern. The freedom to be young and carefree is so fleeting.
If my child came home with condoms or if our school board even brought this up, I would be making so much noise. I'd pull them out of the public schools in a minute.
Thank you for your answers ladies. I too find this appalling. In the rural area we live in, the superintendant and board would have been ousted for even suggesting something of this sort for elementary or middle school students. It just goes to show you that there are definitely strong liberal areas that have liberal beliefs that are effecting even our youngest children. They say they are protecting the children, I feel they are robbing them of their youth and indoctrinating sexuality at too young of an age. Unbelievable!
For what? I admit that kids are a bit more saavy today than 20 years ago but let's get real. If first-graders need condoms then there are some parents out there that belong in jail. Secondly, just the offer of the condom will cause the child to inquire as to what they are suppose to use it for...thus the adult is making the suggestion that the child engage in sex in a round about way. This is but one more indication of how much of the world is being run by over-educated idiots with little or no common sense. WB
Really?! Wow, based on what one sees in the media and on the internet these days without even having to seek it out, it's almost surprising that a school district hasn't tried this before. I think it's too bad that society is traveling down this road. Too Bad indeed. Someone needs to take a look at where this road is heading and we all need to be a vocal part of the solution not just stand by in awe and amazement.
