What if you were being considered for an ambassadorship to a foreign land?

What if you were being considered for an ambassadorship to a foreign land?

What if you were being considered for an ambassador ship...beyond this planet? Could you then suspend your beliefs to consider all of the options and/or implications. What if you became part of "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind" but you were required to respect the beliefs of the Star Children?

Yes, I could respect the beliefs and actions of other life forms. I get along with my dogs and cats quite well. I can communicate with them and they can communicate with me. I also used to care for larger animals and they are not too different.
It doesn't really take much intellect to know when another creature is happy, hungry, uncomfortable, sad or angry. It does take some empathy and respect for  their lifestyle. One must work within one's own limitations as well as the limitations of the other life form. To work with dolphins, one must adapt to a liquid environment for instance.
I actually wrote a poem about this very thing! http://hubpages.com/hub/Spave-Travels
An ambassador must be able to separate beliefs and attitudes from actions. If your attitude is that speeding in your car is ok for you, then your belief is that you are a safe driver. If you see a cop and automatically slow down, your actions will change. But as soon as the cop is gone, your attitude and belief that speeding is OK kicks back in and you speed up.
So, anyone that wants to communicate with foreign ideas and beliefs must be able to do the correct actions whenever their own belief and attitude is quite different.
An open mind would be essential. Refusing to judge others by "normal" criteria would be required. Empathy would come in handy. Having a thick skin would be standard, suppose the aliens didn't like you personally? You would have to step back. They might actually think humans smell bad or something equally repulsive.
Interesting question, Druid Dude. I shall do a hub on this...

I'd want it to be Australia because I think that I could get along with those mates and I have a sense that much about it is like America...a great land that still has plenty of wild unexplored frontier.  And...I think I could learn to speak Australian! LOL! WB

Recently, it was reported that a Mrs. Mazlan Othman, a Malaysian astrophysicist was appointed to this prestigious post at Unoosa. The proposal for Alien Life Ambassador has been prompted by the recent discovery of hundreds of planets orbiting other stars, which are thought to make the discovery of extraterrestrial life more probable than ever before. Carl Sagan may have been right! read more
