Barak Obama Campaign Promises

How did President Obama complete his first year as president in the opinion of the people? Let us look back to Obama, the candidate and the President who now occupies the Whitehouse. For some answers.

During the 2008 presidential election campaign for the presidency, candidate Obama promised hope and change will be coming to Washington. The reform legislation that Obama and the majority Democrat party are pushing for have confirmed his intentions of changing the economic systems in the American government.

In November 2008 Barak Obama was elected President by the people to serve all the people in governing our great nation. Obama was elected either because of his color, because of his political parties affiliation or because of his promises to bring change to Washington.

Each of these suggested reasons helped him to become the nations 44th President and the first black President in US history.Let us look back to what candidate Obama pledged to the American people if elected.

President Barak Obama pledged

1.To bring back the jobs lost in 2007 and 2008. In 2009 the nations unemployment went from 7% in 2008 to 10%( in some areas 17% ). Obama’s administration bailed out the auto industry, banking industry, saved the union workforce and even helped the unions get ownership in the companies by forcing the creditors to lose their financial investments in the companies.

The Obama administration has increased the size of government by 10%, added more union jobs and commissions. Government unemployment stands at 3% and government employees and Congress did get a raise. in 2009 while the deficit increased.

2.To fix the economic problems by passing the $787 billion Tarp bill (Congress passed the bill without reading or debating the bill as required by constitutional rules.), promised that unemployment would not exceed 8% and shovel ready jobs were available to jump start the economy.

As of today approximately 60% of Tarp has not been spent and unemployment remains at 10%. Recently the CBO projected Tarp will need $85 billion more added to the $787 billion bill. One should note that all of the above is borrowed money adding to the nations skyrocketing debt.

3.To have fiscal responsibility and control spending, Barak Obama promised to go line for line and strike out pork in the Tarp bill. The President signed the Tarp bill without cutting any pork out of the bill.

On wed.1/27/10 in the state of the union speech Obama stated he would put a freeze on spending. Congress on 1/29/10 passed legislation to raise the national debt by another $1.9 billion, the second increase in 60 days, raising the debt ceiling to$14.5 trillion.

4.To rid Washington of lobbyist and special interest groups. Presently in his administration Barak Obama has at least 30 lobbyist, some appointments are know as czars. Obama has been meeting with union officials ( special interest )at the white house on a regular basis.

5.To surround himself with experienced and capable people, like tax cheaters, Marxist, communist and socialist. known as czars. These employees were not background investigated as required by the FBI. The question remains as to why the procedure was exempted. .

6.To have an open transparent government and to allow C-Span to televise the debates and Congressional meetings. Folks it didn’t happen, C-Span was denied access (that is called censorship.)

The President and the Democrats met behind closed doors denying the minority party’s participation in the negotiations. By the way the minority party was elected by the people to represent the people. Essentially the people were locked out and ignored.

7 To close Gitmo last year. The President sent some prisoners to Bermuda, a terrific propaganda move. More could be said but for now a continuing story to be told. Gitmo is still open.

8.To end the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, the President and his advisers are talking in the whitehouse. To be continued .

9.To give 95% of the people a tax break and not to tax anyone below $250,000, by the way according to some officials the ceiling has dropped down to $100,000 with a possibility to $85,000 due to lack of money coming into the US Treasury.

Check this out, President Obama and Congress will tax the rich. If 2 or 3% are the rich and they pay 50% of federal taxes, according to Obama 50% of the nation don’t pay federal taxes, I wonder who will be paying the taxes. ( the middle class )?FUZZY MATH?

10.To not allow no bid contracts in his administration. A major news source reported that Obama approved a $25 million no bid contract to a donor of his campaign. The contract recently was cancelled after being exposed by the media..

11. To reduce the deficit by 50% in his first term. The fact is that the Obama administration has triple the deficit in his first year in office. The proposed budget for 2011($3.85 trillion )given to Congress will be the largest ever in our history if passed by Congress.

The above information you will not see in the bias press or reported on ABC,CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, or other liberal news medias. Watch C-Span or Fox News, they report and broadcast the actual uncensored news

The President's rating is ‘’F’’ in his first year ?

In summary, let us be fair when President Obama talks about what his administration and Congress was left with after the past administration. The simple facts are that then Senator Obama and the present Democrat party took control of Congress in January 2007 and 2008 with a lame duck President George W. Bush.

Surely it is irresponsible to blame the Bush administration for all the present problems without noting that the Democrat majority controlled Congress in 2007 and 2008. President Obama and the Democrats should be accepting their political parties share of the blame for their part in the recession.

President Obama and the Democrat super majority had full control of the economy in 2009 and 2010 . The President has yet to fulfill many of his election promises of which unemployment remains the highest priority. One should note that no President can spend any money without the approval of Congress.

the latest was president Obama closing the summit on 2/25/10 that he (president of the USA )moderated on the Obama health care reform bill.Obama basically told the republicans ( the representatives of the people )that he will get the legislation done without them if need be.

without jobs there will not be people paying for healthcare hence premiums will be going up for those lucky enough to have an employer paying the employee's premiums.

obama and congress still don't get it, we need jobs first and no more spending increasing the deficit. dumb dumbs, idiots and arrogant political brain dead carpetbaggers.

RD... think about those initials. Really Dumb? Hmm... I think you know what I'm saying. Over and over no matter how much Proof you put in front of the Obama supporters... they just choose to live in their own pathetic world of Denial.

Tell them that 34,000 troops were in Afghanistan when Obama took office and now there are 100,000 and point to Obama's promise to end the war and these Obama supporters become dumbfounded. But they still won't accept what a total lying POS he is.

In basketball they say you can't coach "quickness". And in the real world you can't make non-intelligent people intelligent.

We live is a country half full of people who do not have the brain power to understand even simple logic... even when the FACTS are clearly presented.

Indeed..I have heard from everybody the same questions...As I do not pay particular attention to politics, even though I do vote my conscience when I am inside the booth, I do not know of any politician's promises.

One cannot fathom, from an intellectual point of view, why he is doing what he is doing. Thank you.

I did hear from one person why he is keen on the immigration law as it appears to me not a priority at this moment...the people whom he wishes to legalize right now will vote for him during his re-election.

Today is 3/7/11 and President Obama has been in office some 25 months. I pointed out 11 of the Presidents promises he made to the American people if elected. Out of the 11 ,Obama has not performed on 1,3,4,6,7,8,10 and 11 of his promises, another ‘’f‘’ rating

.

The only accomplishment that he could possibly consider a kept promise is

on items 2. spending on the $825 billion stimulus bill , item 5. surround himself with experienced and capable people ( could be questionable) and item 9. give 95% of the people a tax break ( really not a tax break but he didn‘t raise everyone’s taxes)

.

As he begins his 3rd year in office, the shine that he once had is getting pretty dull. It’s becoming clear as to who and what he represents being in the Whitehouse.

The 2012 budget battle has started with Obama and Congressman Ryan attending town hall meetings .President Obama don't speak about what is in his budget but the comments he made to Congressman's Ryan’s budget are not totally truthful. The campaign for the 2012 Presidency has officially started.

Yesterday the Obama administration approved a bonus of $2.6 billion for Medicare plans that need money to pay for coverage in the plans, that’s after Obamacare cut $500 billion from Medicare in the original bill.

President Obama, the Democrat controlled Senate and the Republican controlled House of Representatives will have a need to work in a bipartisan way to control spending and reduce the national debt. The Democrats have had control of Congress since 2006 and after the 2010 elections, the Democrats still control 2/3 of our government. Under the Obama Administration the yearly deficits has increased the national debt $4.5 trillion. A second round of oil speculation and rising prices in food, gasoline, corn, wheat, clothing , healthcare costs and a stagnant economy with the devaluation of the American dollar ( loss of 20% value ) requires our governments immediate attention.

When President Obama took office in Jan 2009, a gallon of gasoline was $1.843. On 4/23/11 gasoline prices hit $5.16 a gallon in Florida and California. In Jan. 2009 a barrel of oil was $37.74, today on the world market crude oil prices hit $124 a barrel and here in the US IT HIT $112 a barrel. One must wonder when the president will understand that the national security is at risk and that Obama’s inactions are not in the best interest of the American people and the economy.

The President didn’t tell the public that Ryan’s Budget repeals Obamacare ,cuts in doctor’s pay , Medicare payments to healthcare providers and IPAD, a government department that will decide if a service is needed or not needed. When Medicare cuts payments, co-pays increase, meaning the patient will pay more out of pocket cost.

4.A trillion dollars in tax breaks for the rich (the extension of the parts of the Bush tax cuts that Obama wants to see expire)

.

The president didn’t say that allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire will immediately raise taxes rates and taxes for everyone. The President can call it anything that he wants but it is a tax increase on all. Hardest hit are small businesses, middle class and the poor.

What the president didn’t tell the people is that in the existing HEALTHCARE bill there are $250 billion in new taxes and $500 billion in MEDICARE cuts. The bill requires everyone to purchase insurance otherwise the government will impose a penalty. There are other sections that businesses and the unions are getting waivers from the Obama administration because of the cost to comply.

Wake up America, Obama is on the road campaigning and telling the American people how the Republicans are hurting the poor and middle class.

The CBO now estimates that the Healthcare bill will not be deficit neutral as first reported. The bill will create a $1 trillion deficit now that the Obama administration has revised the information.

Where are you getting your information? Whenever I watch Fox News they make statements they can't back up. The campaign promises of any candidate have to be adjusted once they get the full brunt of what's happening and if you check out the facts you will see that what you are doing is using information from a biased media company without any backed up facts. As far as the deficit goes, I have found where Obama pledged to cut the deficit in half in 5 years, but not in 2, yet FoxNews and Republican Presidential hopefuls keep quoting it over and over. Please reference the articles where you are getting your information. If you simply quote what Newt told you and believed it, are you a patriot or a puppet? Political parties on all sides are using mindless followers like you to spread irrelevant, inaccurate, and absurd information. This article should not be taken seriously unless citations for your "facts" are given. Just scrolled through your post again...nope no citations in sight. Moving on...

VERY INTERESTING REPLY TO MY HUB!

The local business sections newspapers, Google at times, Saturday business discussions on Fox, Sunday News programs ( I select who I want to watch), they repeat all thru the day on cable. As I said before:

Watch C-Span or Fox News, they report and broadcast the actual uncensored news.Cavuto always has on both parties ( sometimes the Democrat refuses an invitation).

If you watch CNN ,they inject their opinions into the news ( selected news, don't show it all ). Fox News ''fair and balanced '','' we report, you decide ''

Fox Lies if you see a lie, send me a note and I will check it out.

You said ‘’Fox News they make statements they can't back up’’ very interesting statement.

On Fox ( probably only Fox ) they will show actual tapes of whoever ( past and present )of the subject ( not cut up to only show portions ).

I reviewed my hub and stand by it! If anything I have written is wrong point it out, I welcome a debate or a correction. Sometimes the actual #s vary, in most cases later the Whitehouse is correcting past statements. Many on the deficit, unemployment, budget estimates, statements as to what happened (how about the UBL killing) and various half truths coming out of the President at times ( HE DOES LIE or is misinformed ).

‘’ Obama pledged to cut the deficit in half in 5 years, but not in 2, yet ‘’ OBAMA did say, before his first term is over ,he will reduce the deficit in half. SEE #11

I seen him say it on a news tape!

PJ When a hubber leaves a link to support a statement, I will read it. Than I search on the page who are the website parties and their political backgrounds. There is a lot of bias reporting, much of it says ‘’Fox Lies’ and other statements very biased to Fox News commentators like Glen Beck, O’Reilly, Hannity and whoever. Be open minded and try to get ahead of the propaganda on the net and in the mainstream media.

Looking foreword for you to point to which item is incorrect.

Your response will be appreciated.

Under the leadership of President Obama, the Senate has not presented a budget proposal for 952 days going back to 2009.A 2012 budget has been approved by the Republican House in Feb and sent to the Senate awaiting to be presented to Senate members.

The fact is that 2/3’s of our government is not working in the best interest of the people. Where and when will Congress act to get the promised jobs? Blaming the 1/3 that is working is disingenuous and misleading.

On Dec 15,2011, Congress will need to vote the third time to continue funding the government.

Obama and the Senate has yet to present a 2012 budget. The House passed their 2012 budget in Feb as require by House rules.

Where are the jobs? Check this site. http://majorityleader.gov/JobsTracker/

The question remains as to what is the best direction for the country. Do we raise taxes or do we cut spending? The national debt has exceeded $15 trillion and counting. In order to prevent a collapse of our system, Congress/ Government must cut spending.

The 1% cannot be taxed as to completely solve the problems of our nation. Without Small business providing the working class jobs, the necessary revenues to manage the government will never occur

Obama and the Democrats claimed VICTORY by passing the 2 month payroll tax holiday!

CONGRESS PASSED a 2 month extension of the Payroll Tax holiday today, Dec. 23, 2011.Obama and the Democrats fought hard for the 2 month extension. Obama claimed victory for the people, some how he is satisfied with 2 months rather than the Republican House bill that was a 1 year extension. The House bill was deficit neutral as required by Pay-Go legislation signed by President Obama in 2010.

The President held a press conference ( no questions as usual ) said that the tax extension would save working workers $ 1200 a year , somehow he forgot that the Senate bill was for ONLY 2 MONTHS. The factual savings varies from $20.00 / week to $40.00/ week. The total would save about $180.00 average to a worker. Obama and Congress working hard for the people left Washington, will return in January to re start the negotiations on passing a longer term.

Here’s the real scoop. The Senate passed the bill for 2 months because they could only find enough cuts to offset the expenditure of $ 33 billion. What a waste of taxpayer time and money!

Another delay in finding a solution.

The President and the Democrat leadership have forgotten that the Pay-Go law ,2/13/10,calls for any new taxes to be offset by government cutting existing spending costs.

The Mainstream media and the President calls a 2 month extension a victory, one should wonder who the victory is for?

President Barack Obama is hailing pay-as-you-go BUDGET legislation he

signed Friday night as one in a series of crucial steps needed to snap

Washington out of a destructive pattern of overspending.

“Now, Congress will have to pay for what it spends, just like everybody

else,” Obama said in his radio and Internet address released Saturday

morning. “After a decade of profligacy, the American people are tired of

politicians who talk the talk but don’t walk the walk when it comes to

fiscal responsibility. It’s easy to get up in front of the cameras and RANT

against exploding deficits. What’s hard is actually getting deficits under

control. But that’s what we must do.”

The PAYGO compels NEW spending or tax changes to not add to the federal deficit. Not to be confused with pay-as-you-go financing, which is when a government saves up money to fund a specific project. Under the PAYGO rules a new proposal must either be "budget neutral"

or offset with savings derived from existing funds.

Congress has passed an extension of the payroll tax cut and long-term jobless benefits, handing to President Obama one of his election-year PRIORITIES despite widespread concerns about the bill's DEFICT implications. For the 2012 election, Barak Obama wants legislation to be ‘’FAIR’’, REALLY!

Today Feb. 17,2012, the Republican house voted to pass a 1 year extension to the Obama pay-roll tax credit for 160 million working Americans. The Senate followed within minutes approved the measure 60-36.Republicans GAVE UP on their demands that the tax cuts BE PAID FOR. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the package will INCREASE the budget deficit by $126 billion over the next five years.

"I cannot and I will not support legislation that extends the payroll tax holiday WITHOUT PAYING for it," said Rep. Phil Gingrey, R-Ga. "This will add $100 billion to the deficit and it will create an even greater shortfall within the Social Security trust fund that already has over $100 billion SHORTFALL just in the last two years."

ON 2/13/10 President Obama signed PAY-GO legislation that require new spending to be offset with budgeted cuts. The legislation pushed thru by the President and a Democrat super majority Congress required all new spending to be deficit neutral.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0210/32921.ht...

The end result of passing the bill without reducing spending, as required by the pay-go law, will be at the expense of the American taxpayer. The funds to supplement the social security trust fund will be borrowed and increase the National Debt. At a congressional hearing today, a Congressman stated that the actual unfunded liabilities of our government is $96 TRILLION, parts of which is Medicare, Social Security, government Pensions and other non mentionables.

The government consist of 3 equal branches of which is the executive office of the President, Congress made up of the House of Representatives and the Senate in addition to the Judicial branch which includes the Supreme Court. The office of the President is the highest position in our government.

JM, EACH BRANCH OF GOVERNMENT has powers granted by the US Constitution. The President has made statements regarding the Judicial Branch that are inappropriate and irresponsible regarding the Supreme Court’s review of the new Healthcare Law. The only power of the American people comes when they go to the polls and vote. In Nov., the people will judge the president on his record in office.

President Obama on the campaign trail in Florida continues to distort the Ryan/Republican House 2013 budget. Senator Reid will not allow a vote on the President's 2013 budget and the Senate for the past 3 years has not produced a budget.

Senator Reid refuses to put the House Budget on the floor so that a vote could take place. One must wonder why the President don't condemn his party for not allowing our Senators to debate, amend or vote on the only budget available.

We the people will have an opportunity to vote to clean up Washington in November.

Certainly familiar refrains Jon, but a good compilation of the Conservative position, nevertheless. Obviously, I can't respond to all of your points in one comment, but let me start with #1 and #2 on your list, since they were related.

1. I am surprised you failed to note that 1) when Obama took office at the end of January, the Bush policies and Conservative Recession had driven up unemployment from a low of 4.4% in May 2007 to 7.8% in Jan 2009 (not 2008), when Bush left office. The real rise, however, began in May 2008, when unemployment jumped from 5% to an incredible, at that time, 5.4%. From that point on, unemployment rose an average of .3% per month after only rising .0375% per month in the previous same time period, a ten-fold increase! Now enter Obama who promised to turn-things around in his "first term" or so, not his first "year", as Conservatives try to make everyone believe. You would agree, wouldn't you Jon, that unemployment was accelerating on Feb 1, 2009? If not, please go back and study your data.

Now, let me ask you ... have you every tried to stop a boulder from rolling down a steep hill while your opponents are trying to cut the legs out from under you? Well, the momentum of unemployment caused by the Great Conservative recession of 2008 was a very large boulder indeed and further, "no president in the history of the United States" has stopped the increase in unemployment, in similar circumstances, as did President Obama. To stop it a little over 10% in eight months is nothing short of miraculous; your hero, President Reagan, couldn't do it. I am not sure why you didn't mention any of that.

I will leave the auto bail-out which saved the country from a depression (another point you forgot) to separate comment.

2. TARP was signed into law by President Bush on October 3, 2008, not President Obama. It was for $700 billion, which Obama later reduced by $475 billion. You failed to mention in your follow comments, I believe, that TARP has actually made the taxpayer money, let alone not cost them a dime, which, I admit, wasn't thought to have a chance in hell of ever happening.

What I believe you are referring to is President Obama's "stimulus" bill signed into law February 17, 2009 with implementation beginning March 2009. One of the results was the stock market recovery in May 2009, another missing fact. The $787 billion was planned to be expended out over the next three of four years with immidiate relief going to the States, the taxpayers and the unemployed. Because they knew it would take time to spin-up those "shovel-ready" jobs, the construction stimulus wasn't planned to start until late 2009 and on into 2010 and 2011. (a few free factoids)

Jon, I am surprised you failed to mention that President Obama "never" PROMISED that he would stop unemployment from exceeding 8%. I challenge you to find one quote from him, or any one in his administration or senior campaign staff that made such a "promise"; it simply does not exist. Your research should have shown that the 8% number was a "highly" caveated "estimate" from his economic team in very early January 2009, before, I believe, they even knew unemployment had sky-rocketed from 6.8% in Nov 2008 to 7.3% in Dec 2008! Your research would have also shown their "estimate" of 8% was based on 3rd Qtr, 2008 data, rather than 4th Qtr, which wasn't available until late January 2009. As we all know, the full force of the recession wasn't evident until January 2009. So to keep flinging that easily disproven old myth around is a bit disceptive, wouldn't you say?

1.To bring back the jobs lost in 2007 and 2008

Since taking office the Obama administration has lost 2 million more jobs.

A Obama’s administration bailed out the auto industry

At taxpayer expense, government has NO BUSINESS taking over companies in the PRIVATE SECTOR. If labor and management can’t compete, they go bankrupt and are bought up by other investors who start up companies with a NEW SLATE. There are other ways Government can help to keep companies afloat WITHOUT using taxpayer money, in this case, BORROWED MONEY.

The methods that Obama used to take over the companies were like a SOCIALIST STATE.

2.To fix the economic problems by passing the $787 billion Tarp

bill (congress passed the bill Without reading or DEBATING the bill

as required by constitutional rules.),

A Democrat Congressman and Obama remarked when questioned regarding the process pushed by the Democrat controlled Congress, ‘’WE WON, WE CAN DO IT BECAUSE WE WON’’ when referring to the Constitution and Congressional procedures.

Take note to #3.’’Barak Obama

promised to go line for line and strike out pork in the Tarp bill.’’ NOT TRUE

Pork was passed out with Obama’s approval.

Take note #4.’’To rid Washington of lobbyist and special interest groups’’

Special interest visitors to the Whitehouse were George Soros, Andy Stern president of SEIU union and Mr. Trumpka, president of the AFL-CIO unions. Mr. trumpka bragged that he has weekly conference calls to the Whitehouse.

My reply to your post.

1. ‘’Bush policies and Conservative Recession ‘’

The recession started in Nov. 2007, only 11 months after the Democrats took majority control of Congress. Republican passed ZERO legislation.’’ ’’In May 2008, when unemployment jumped from 5% to an incredible, at that time, ’’Democrats including Senator Obama was in majority control with a lame duck President Bush.

2. Obama administration started his term with a SUPER MAJORITY ( filibustered proof with the Independents voting with the Democrats ) with unemployment at 7.6% and a bankroll of $700 billion (Tarp fund ) and $787 billion stimulus funds all passed by the majority Democrats under the leadership of Speaker Pelosi and Senator Reid.

‘’The $787 billion was planned to be expended out over the next THREE of Four years with immediate relief going to the States, the taxpayers and the unemployed’’ YEARS- NOT TRUE .’’shovel-ready" jobs‘’, OBAMA ADMITTED there were NO shovel ready jobs. Stimulus money went to districts that didn’t exist ( reported by the media). Waste was abundant on projects that didn’t even get built. The stimulus grew to $ 1 trillion. The Tarp bill required any monies paid back or not used were to go back to the Treasury to pay down the deficit. Obama and the Dems spent the money, Republicans were overruled when they fought to return the money to the Treasury ( the law was broken).

After spending and adding $5 trillion to the National Debt some say that OBAMA DID GOOD. Really! Hubbers please forgive the long reply.

To be continued

1. Yes, you are correct, the recession did start "only" 11 months after Democrats gained a majority in Congress (gee, I wonder why that happened?), but they did not have control as we see today, the Conservatives in the Senate can stop any legislation they choose to; they can do it today, and the could do it then ... but didn't (gee, I wonder why?).

In any case, as anyone knows who as even a small understanding on how an economy works knows, it takes years for this kind of near depression to develop. By the time Democrats gained a modicum of control in Congress, the recession was a foregone conclussion.

Unless they moved the election date up several months, Bush was hardly a "lame-duck" president.

I presume you are counting in your two million, the 1.3 million lost in Feb and Mar 2009, less than 60-days after he took the oath of office, are you implying Obama was God and could work miracles, or should those job losses be more properly attributed to Bush?

Yes, Tarp, which Bush signed, was passed by a Democratic Congress who held a bare majority, it was a clearly bi-partisan vote. As to the stimulas, it was good that the Democrats had a supermajority as without it, this country would still be in a depression because of Conservative recalcitrance to mitigate their past poor performance.

Please show me the statements by Obama, or his administration, that the Stimulus was to be 100% spent immediately. I doubt that you can because they simply don't exist. On the other hand, I can provide multiple examples where Obama stated flatly, this was going to take a lot of time.

''the Conservatives in the Senate can stop any legislation they choose to; they can do it today, and the could do it then .''

The Republican and Democrat Senators can't stop anything UNLESS SENATOR REID ALLOWS A/THE BILLS on the floor.

C-Span broadcasted a Senate Budget Committee meeting on April 18, 2012 , the meeting was chaired by Senator Conrad. The Ryan/ Republican 2013 House budget was discussed in a BI-PARTISAN attempt to force Senator Reid to allow the bill to be discussed on the Senate floor. In closing the meeting ,Chairman Senator Conrad stated that the '' budget control act of 2011'' sufficed as a 2013,2014 and 2015 budget. The Senator 's statement was incorrectly stated. Budgets produce line item expenses and require Congress to pass a budget and forward to the President for his signature to be official. Senator Reid refuses to allow a vote on the President’s 2013 budget and the House’s budget passed by the House as required by Congressional rules. The Democrats game plan is not to do anything on the 2013 budget until after the Nov. 2012 general elections. The CBO estimated that the 2012 budget year is projected to show a $1.56 deficit. Since 2009 and each year of the Obama Administration, the total deficits are well over $5 trillion.

Obama says that he needs another 4 years to fix the mess that he inherited from the previous administration. REALLY, should the American people be fooled again.

My Esoteric profile image

There is no question you are correct in your statement, Jon, but, by "only" saying that your statement becomes misleading. In my opinion the statement, to be accurate, should be,

"The Republican and Democrat Senators can't stop anything UNLESS SENATOR REID ALLOWS A/THE BILLS on the floor, 'and once there, the Conservatives in the Senate can stop any legislation they choose to; they can do it today, and the could do it then .'

Of course Democrats, when in the minority, have the same option, if the Conservatives don't have a supermajority, however, when they were in the miniority in the past, they used that power very sparingly. Even in the future it is problamatic that they could do it anyway because the Democrats are more representative of the American public by containing a mix of conservatives through liberals in it and, in any case, there is no way Reid could exercise the dictatorial power that McConnell does over the Republicans, who are 98% conservative or very conservative.

I need to make a technical correction. "Budget Resolutions" are submitted and passed in the House and Senate and sets the topline for expendatures of various large segments of the government expense sheet. It is a "resolution" and NOT a law that is signed by the President. If Congress doesn't want to pass on, they don't have to. It is the "Appropriations" that end up being law, and Conrad as almost right, I didn't think the Budget Control Act lasted to 2015.

BTW, the projected deficit for 2013 is less than $800 billion.

You, and other conservatives, keep complaining about how long it is taking Obama to effect a recovery, and the cost to do so. What does your research show is the average recovery time of getting the ecomony and/or unemployment back to the levels prior to its beginning, say for the last 15 recessions/depressions the size of the 2008 one or bigger?

LET'S LOOK AT THE FACTS,the present and the future of our government. From now to the election what will Obama accomplish besides BLAMING someone or party for not accomplishing what he promissed. If you consider the government taking over 25% of the economy a good thing or a bad thing. Did the $700 billion (tarp ) and the $787 billion( stimulus, now over $1 trillion)spent have an impact on the economy and jobs bring about the changes he promised in 2009 or has he failed.

Since Jan 2009, his administration has produced $5.4 trillion in deficits.

Hopefully in 2012, Obama and many others who are a part of the corruption in Washington will be sent packing.

The problem Jon, those on the extreme, Left or Right, don't give a hang about FACTS; that is one characteristic on being extreme, after all.

QUESTION - Assuming you agree that the country was headed for a depression, as most conservative economists were predicting by Oct 2008, and you are one of the Conservatives who DO NOT believe a depression would be a good cleansing experience for the country, how much of the $5.4 trillion (I will use your figure, mine is lower), is a result of having to stop this country from going into a depression? --- wouldn't you agree that the remainder is a what should be fairly attributed to Obama?

FACT - unemployment was ACCELERATING past 7.8% when Obama took office

FACT - in previous recessions/depressions of the same size or worse, minimum unemployment ended up between 15% and 30% when the government did nothing

FACT - with TARP and the STIMULUS, 1) the stock market turned around two months after the stimulus was announced, 2) layoffs were reduced from 700,000 per month in February 2009 (which was an accelerating number) to around 300,000 per month by June 2009 to job gains by January 2010 (a historically quick recovery), 3) unemployment peaked at 10.1% instead of what is NORMALLY a much higher number.

FACT - The Conservatives have done everything in their power to thwart Obama from improving the economy.

FACT - Conservatives changed the dynamics of how the Senate works by requiring a super-majority for ANYTHING they don't like to be brought to the floor for a vote (it has always been historically true that the Majority leader has first crack at it so blaming Reid for that is disinginuous as ALL Majority Leaders do it.)

I do agree with you on one thing, America needs to decide, either bring back en mass, an all Conservative, super-majority Congress so that they can chuck the Constitution and reinstate the Articles of Conderation and we can return to the good-old-days of the 1800s, or kick out the Conservatives and elect Republicans and Democrats who understand how the governmental process is supposed to work to move this country forward again.

1. Let's start with their campaign motto "There is nothing more important than to make Obama a one-term president" (paraphrasing Senator McConnell's openning remarks)

2. Taking the use of the power to filibuster to UNHEARD of and unintended heights in order to block virtually ALL Democratic legislation; unless it became too politically destructive not to compromise at the last second.

3. Making our founding fathers who signed the Constitution turn over in their graves by taking the word "Compromise" purposefully out of the their vocabulary ... many in the Conservative/Tea Party ranks have stated they believe compromise is a BAD thing.

4. The massive, and largely false, propaganda wars against the successful Bush TARP and Obama stimulus programs.

5. The negative pall they have placed over America from all of this propaganda which, given the economy is largely driven by the mood of the country, has had the effect of dampening/impeding the recovery.

6. By the House NOT proposing more than two bills, both accepted by Democrats, that actually would have increased jobs rather than being neutral or decreased them in 2011, at least untll I stopped counting in November.

7. Shall I stop? I can go on you know.

Just finished watching on C-SPAN, Senator Schumer and Senator Durdin hold a hearing on AZ1070, the Arizona immigration law.

Another hollywood production by two of the Senates best. The rest of the committee, Democrats and Republicans, didn't show up for the hearing, doesn't that tell one how important the hearing was.

On 4/25/12, the Supreme Court will hear briefs from both sides of the AZ1070 law. If the AZ law is held constitutional, wondering how the Obama administration will handle the loss?

My Esoteric profile image

Surprise, surprise, Jon, I absolutely agree with you about that hearing being a waste of time and money.

Good question, however, punt, I guess. All I have heard is that the Democrats will introduce legislation to make what AZ is doing explicitly illegal; somehow they think this, if passed, would get around the Court's objections.

However, I am beginning to wonder if the AZ bruhaha isn't much to do about nothing. I read this morning that, according to Homeland Security, the number of interceptions of illegals crossing the border as dropped from 1 million a year in 2005, to 250,000 in 2010 (or maybe 2011); and that after the huge build-up of border security that the federal government has done. That is a massive decrease that, to me, says Obama's effort (and Bush before him) is actually working.

What say you?

Sounds like my town.

I am not sure anybody along the political spectrum believes there isn't a right and wrong and that punishment is deserved when the law is broken (I wonder what punishment Thomas Jefferson should have received when he refused to deliver William Marbury his lawful commission to be Justice of the Peace in the D.C.?). The difference is the amount of gray that enters the picture as you move from Right to Left. For those on the far Right, the picture is pure black and white, no scales of gray whatsoever in terms of whether a law was broken or the punishment deserved. For example, those on the Right would say that a car which crossed a street against a yellow light broke the law if the light turns red an instant before his rear bumber clears the other side of the street, those on the left wouldn't and those on the Right would put a man in jail for the maximum term if he stole a loaf of bread to feed his family while those on the Left would simply give him probation.

In a real life example, those in the center and left in Congress wanted to help starving and destitute farmers in central Texas during the drought and long, double-dip depression of 1893 by passing bill authorizing $25,000 grants. President Grover Cleveland, a Bourbon Democrat (the Conervatives of the day), vetoed it by claiming the federal government had no business helping its citizenry out of destitute times. That, is the difference between the Right and the Left.

By the way, is there any position you and Rush Limbaugh disagree on?

When Obama took office, it was his job to administer the Tarp funds ($700 billion) approved in the Bush Administration. One of President Obama’s request was a $785 billion stimulus bill. Today the stimulus bill has increased to $1 trillion and the economy still has not recovered from the recession which ended in march of 2009.President Obama is in the last year of his term as President. Where did the money go and who received the money, the taxpayers should be asking of their elected officials.

Actually, given the Conservatives pledge NOT to let him keep ANY of his promises, I think he has done a fine job, much better than Bush, for sure, who destroyed this country. Also, consider that where Congress was needed to fulfill any of his promises, he didn't have dictatorial power over its Democratic members, a situation the founders approve of, like the Conservatives have over their members, which is probably making the founders turn over in their graves. Further, he only had the help of a favorable Congress for two years until the Conservatives came in and brought Congress to a standstill. Even with that, Obama has, in only three years, kept 45%, with another 29% still in the works and 13% being stalled by the Conservatives.

Given the depth of depression this ecomonmy was headed toward in Feb 2009, it is a miracle and a result of his $1 trillion, Conservative caused, stimulus that the economy began to recover as early as July, not March, of 2009. Without the stimulus and TARP, both of which wouldn't have been needed if the Conservatives knew how to run an economy, we might, based on historical standards, just now be starting the recovery ... that is the reality of the situation, not your hyperbole.

My Esoteric profile image

My Esoteric 4 years ago from Keystone Heights, FL

BTW, I am curious why you keep rehashing these big numbers or $700 billion and $1,000 trillion. Did you expect a $1000 stimulus would fix the mess Bush and the Conservatives got us into? Of coarse those are huge numbers, they had to be in order to address the monstrous catastrophy the Bush administration visited upon America. While the $700 billion was the right number (only $400 - 500 billion was actually used and all of it has been paid back, with interest, I think, so even USING that number in your argument contradicts your point), the $1,000 trillion wasn't enough, most economists agree now. The original number of $787 billion was based on 3rd Qtr, 2008 data, before the total disaster was known. Economists think Obama needed to add another $800 billion but, as you well know, that was never going to fly. Also, most economists agree that if Conservatives had been a positive, or even a neutral force, rather than the highly negative and derisive force they truly are, the economy would be in much better shape than it is. In other words if the Conservatives had "pulled" with Obama instead of "pushing" against him, we might be seeing 5% growth and 6% unemployment today and not what we have. It actually surprises me Obama has been able to achieve the modest economic success he has, given the obstinant refusal of the Conservatives to help Americans.

But then, helping individual Americans isn't in the Conservative philosophy is it? To Conservatives, "Provide for the general Welfare" has nothing to do with the citezenry of America.

I think both are usefull, depending on context.

I looked at your Big Oil blog and considered the words you tagged on the end "... want to tax them..." Would you consider that a distortion? In fact, the Democrats don't want to "tax" them at all, meaning add on new taxes that weren't ever there before, instead, they want to remove what has become a "tax give-away", one of the causes of the national deficit and debt. From my point of view, removing a "subsidy", something I thought conservatives hated, is not a tax hike, it is simply ending a program they feel is no longer needed.

Now, if you want to argue, as some have, that the "tax give-away" or subsidy is still somehow needed by a company whose Net Profit after taxes is $43 billion, that is a different story altogether and doesn't fall in the realm of distortion.

I then looked at a few of things claimed in the blog you offered.

Claim: Net Profit of around 8%; Exxon's 2011 Net Profit, after taxes was 9%, so close, but his graph that he provides stops there, it doesn't continue on down to say the retail food industry which is normally in the 3% range, or my industry where I find myself at around 5%. (Isn't that Deception by ommission?)

Claim: Since 1981, the Industry paid out more in Taxes than [Net] Profit; Exxon's 20011 Net Profit was $42 billion and taxes were $31 billion, so, may not be true any more.

Claim: The blogger says oil companies have invested more than $25 billion to drill for shale oil in the US in 2011, with such investment creating 20,000+ jobs since 2008. Exxon, invests between $-10 billion (I am not sure how they managed to go negative in 2007, but that is what their balance sheet shows) to $70 billion in 2009; it looks like Exxon's normal annual investment, however is around $20 - 25 billion with $10 - 12 billion being offset in depreciation deductions. Now, I applaud the oil industry for investing $25 billion in America in 2011, but the blogger once again distorts his message by omitting "which is x% of the total they invested world-wide" from his statement. He was trying to make it seem like Big Oil was doing America a huge favor when, in fact, it might be just a tiny one.

As to your other link, the Weekly Standard starts of Distorting their Distoriong article by saying:

"Last night, two Democratic senators helped block a motion to debate and vote on the president's jobs bill. That hasn't stopped Barack Obama from arguing that it was Republicans in the Senate WHO ARE SOLEY responsible for holding up his bill's movement."

They are trying to chatise Obama for lying to the public because two conservative Democrats (a party who encompasses a wide spectrum of political beliefs) joined all, or most of the conservative Republicans (who almost always, with one exception every so often, vote in lock-step with what ever their Minority Leader says). Well, in fact, Obama DIDN'T lie, the Weekly Standard is. They went on to report, to back up their claim, that Obama said:

"... a Republican minority got together as a group to block ..."

Do you see the word "soley" in there, or any other word like it? No you don't. In fact, even if the two conservative Democratic Senators Had voted with their party, the Republicans would have still accomplished their goal of preventing Obama from doing good for America.

The American Standard not only distorted, they lied.

hmmmm, how do get a "half-truth" when the assertion is Obama said "solely" and he actually said "the Republican minority got together as a group to block ...". That is quite different than saying something like, "100% of the Republican minority voted to block ... and received no help from Democrats or Independents." Now, in the latter case, Obama is saying "soley".

What surprises me about that chart is that even in the best of recent times, Clinton's Presidency, participation rate only gets to 67%. By comparison, it is 64% today, down from 66% when Bush left office but at which time, the rate was already plummeting because the effects of the Conservative recession were just beginning to visit itself on the American public. The question is, without Obama's actions, how much lower would that number be?

The President often says '' let me be clear''. The President says that his administration inherited a mess. What is funny is that he fails to tell the American people that he and his party , Democrats, were in majority control of Congress, the House and the Senate, from Jan.2007 to Dec. 2008. Obama’s statements are a distortion of the true facts or that he and his party forgot that they were a part of the 2008 recession.

The President is on the campaign trail blaming the Republicans, the do nothing Republicans, who had no legislation that they proposed be allowed to go to committee by majority leader Pelosi or Senate leader Reid. The mainstream media reporting on the Presidents actions are really biased, don’t you agree?

From Jan. 2009 to 2010, the President and his party had a super majority congress, 100% control of the government. Blaming Republicans for holding up legislation is disingenuous if anything. JOBS, JOBS JOBS, the country is waiting.

My Esoteric profile image

My Esoteric 4 years ago from Keystone Heights, FL

The fact that the Dems had finally regained control of Congress after losing it to the Conservatives 12 years earlier is mute in regards to the Great Conservative Recession of 2008. The downturn that became the near Depression was already under way when the Dems got control. Further, while they may have gained the majority as the recession began, it doesn't mean they were capable of doing anything about it, even if they had the time to effect the outcome, which they didn't. Remember, that is when the Conservatives began abusing the power of the filabuster in the Senate; in addition, the Conservatives held the Presidency.

No, the fact that Dems got control in 2007 means absolutely nothing, given they were not able to do anything to stop it from happening.

THEY WERE, however, able to help stop it from becoming a Depression because, without the Democratic majority, TARP, one of the underpinnings of mitigating what was happening, would likely have gone down in defeat if the Conservatives were still in control.

The 2008 Recession was totally a Conservative-sponsored downturn because, as I have clearly shown in another hub, that the Conservative economic philolophy, the Austrian School, simple doesn't work in the real world, it never has.

By the way, it WAS that supermajority that allowed the Obama stimulus to pass; without it, this country would still be in a depression, not recovering from the biggest recession since 1937. Do you honestly think that without that supermajority, the Conservatives wouldn't have abused the filabuster some more and blocked the stimulus in the Senate? You know they would have have because Conservatives believe a good depression is needed once in awhile to "cleanse" the National soul.

Jon, regarding the over=generalization you made about Obamacare taxing jobs out of existance; your source needs to get his facts correct. He said:

"In 2010, however, Congress, ravenous for revenues to fund Obamacare, included in the legislation a 2.3 percent tax on gross revenues -- which generally amounts to about a 15 percent tax on most manufacturers' profits -- from U.S. sales of medical devices beginning in 2013. This will be piled on top of the 35 percent federal corporate tax, and state and local taxes. The 2.3 percent tax will be a $20 billion blow to an industry that employs more than 400,000, and $20 billion is almost double the industry's annual investment in research and development."

The problem with his theory is the 2.3% EXCISE tax does not impact a company's bottom line, it is a tax on the product which is passed on to the consumer; your telephone bill has several of them in it was does what you pay for gas at the pump. That is why you haven't heard any of these companies squawking. This tax doesn't impact jobs one iota.

As to the pipeline, Conservatives continue to circumvent the truth and rational decision-making in order to demonize Obama.

FACT - OBAMA supports the Keystone pipeline in theory

FACT - The Mebraska Repulican governor was opposed to the route chosen through is state and their Republican legislature PASSED A LAW prohibiting the current route of the pipeline

FACT - Conservatives gave up their belief in State's Rights in their efforts to thwart the decision of the Nebraska government..

FACT - Pipelines can cause environmental disasters

FACT - Conservatives apparently don't care, as proven by their insistance of building the pipeline now, rather than waiting until a safer route is found and researched and approved in a rational manner.

FACT - When a safe route is found (apparently one has been) that satifies the Republicans in Nebraska and the State Department, Obama will give the go ahead.

FACT - Obama did give the go-ahead on part of the pipeline South of Nebraska.

FACT - the US will NOT see a decline in gas prices once the pipeline is complete and oil is flowing for almost ALL of it will be sold overseas.

Conservatives need to get their FACTS straight.

FACT -

Jon, you do understand that increasing the debt limit to pay bills already incurred is not the same thing as PAY-GO; instead, it is an entirely different issue where Conservatives, having already been burned by a lowering of our national credit rating because of their antics, want to do it again.

Budget negotiations are where you discuss things like PAY-GO, not brinksmanship over whether to default on our debt or not.

The Senator Coburn report '' WASTE IN GOVERNMENT'' http://coburn.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/rightnow...

It's all too simple, just stop spending money we do not have. The government is the largest employer in the country. When businesses lose money, they have no other choice but to cut cost. To be fair with the people who pay for government, government needs to put some skin in the game. Senator Coburn has found $9 trillion of waste. Cutting wastes in government before entitlements seem quite reasonable. Why won't the President and the Democrat Senate listen to the other side of the isle and the people?

"budget" is a broad term and my meaning is all parts of the process that ends up as an appropriation sent to the President for signature. It doesn't just mean the physical document that is supposed, not required, to be passed every March or April. As I understand, the "budget" was set last year in the negotiations over the debt ceiling, a time where it shouldn't have been done. You and I both know that if Reid did put forward a budget, it would never be passed anyway, the Conservatives would filibuster it into non-existance, it would be a massive waste of time given the kind of no-compromise Republicans who are in the Senate; one might consider it fraud, waste, and abuse of government funds, lol.

As you know, all a budget does is set "not to exceed" limits, in broad terms, that the appropriators use as guidelines to come up with the final budget for any given fiscal year. It is the appropriation discussions where the fight ought to take place, not during the decision on whether to default on America's obligations or not.

You are quite wrong in saying businesses only have one choice when they are losing money - cut costs. In my business, I will try to raise revenues first rather than destroy peoples lives as my first choice. Doesn't that make more sense?

Of course the government is the largest employer in the country, they have the military to manage. Take DoD and other national security agencies out of the equation, then there are several companies bigger than the remaining federal government; Walmart, for example.

How much of that $9 billion is the same waste that Obamacare is trying to get rid of in Medicare and Medicaid; $5 billion is it? If you take the best run companies in America, you are going to find a minimum of 5% of their operating costs can be tied to waste and inefficiency; it is endimic and will always exist because perfection is impossible to obtain. So, even if the federal government was 99% efficient, there would still be $13 billion in waste.

Now, I have't counted since Oct, but the House was NOWHERE near the number of "true" jobs bills they were claiming at that point in time. If fact, I enumerated all of the bills they had voted on in a hub dedicated to that topic.

However, there are plenty of examples of bills Obama/Reid put forward for a vote, and the Conservatives stopped virtually all of them via the filabuster. I think the last one was helping veterans obtain jobs.

If you research the reasons why the Republicans filibustered the Senate bills you will discover that the Democrats wanted to raise taxes on a SELECT GROUP of taxpayers and refused to abide by the PAY-GO LAW. The DEMOCRATS WANT TO TAX, the REPUBLICANS WANT TO CUT SPENDING. One must try to understand how Congress works to resolve a bypass. A simple solution is for any bills passed in either House goes to the other House for debate, amend and negotiate a bi partisan agreement. Afterward the join approved bills are negotiated together by all members of Congress, as per the requires of the Constitution. The FINAL bill than goes to the President to sign into law. Up until the time when the President signs a law, he has to be impartial in the debate. This President has publicly on many occasions told Congress that he will veto a bill if it don’t meet his demands. Some kind of leadership to defend?

Senator Reid has publicly said that he will not allow the House bills to be taken up before the election, just wondering why? Maybe the truth of how the present administration is running the economy into the ground?

Senator Coburn reports that there is $9 trillion in waste in the government today. Surely Congress can cut out enough today to reduce the deficit by the $ 5+ trillion that the Obama Administration has placed upon future generations.

I listened to your two politicians talking, and I heard two politicians talking. Then I searched for a report on the CBO findings, which were produced at Ryan's request, BTW, and the first one I looked at is from "The Hill": http://thehill.com/blogs/healthwatch/medicare/2170...

To summarize the summary, the Ryan budget would:

-- increase the number of uninsured by repealing Obamacare

-- add a private component to Medicare

-- "possibly" increase costs to seniors

-- [CBO report] 'said other possible side effects include “reduced access to health care; diminished quality of care; increased efficiency of health care delivery; less investment in new, high-cost technologies; or some combination of those outcomes.”'

-- calls for deep cuts in Medicaid

-- calls for deep cuts in the Children's Health Insurance Program

There is no question the Ryan budget will cut spending by the government on health care in the long-term, 50% in 10 years and 75% by 2050, according the CBOs initial estimate, but at what cost in human misery for America's children, poor and elderly (unless you are well-off of course).

It is sort "How" you tell the American people the truth isn't it? In his opening speech as a VP candidate. standing next to Romney in Viginia, Ryan told the "Truth" when he said "The median income in America has dropped in the last four years."; that is definitely true. In fact, I will go Ryan one better and say that one year from now, he can say the same thing, regardless of who is President.

The implication is, of course, is that Obama has really screwed things up and Conservatives can do better. Well, that is where he starts off his campaign by lying to the American people through omission. What he omitted was the following:

-- from Sep 11 to now, median income has grown

-- his start point is at the one of two high points for conservatives (about the same number)

-- that from the start point in Mar 2008 to say Oct 2009, when the impact of the big job losses from the Conservative recession, median income also fell even more dramatically

-- that the conservatives let median income fall for over 3 years, from Mar 2002 (the other high point) to Sep 2005 before climbing back up just to where it used to be in 2002

-- that Conservatives let median income fall from Feb 2008 to the end of their reign in Jan 2009

-- that a Conservative economy left median income lower than when it started

-- that Conservatives, in 8 years, couldn't get median income to grow

What Ryan didn't say was that maybe we don't think Obama knows how to grow median income but our record proves that we Conservatives don't know how to.

The first presidential debate is history. Polls taken in the media reported that Mitt Romney had been the winner because of his strong performance. In my humble opinion, it was the American people who truly are the winners. They had the opportunity to see both candidates in an open discussion , live and uncut as to what each candidate had to offer to the American people. The next debate will be the Vice President candidates debate on Oct. 11, 2012 followed by the 2nd presidential debate on Oct 16,2012..

The moderator, Jim Lehrer allowed President Obama 42 minutes and Mitt Romney 38 minutes in the debate, hardly fair and balanced. The President disregarded the time to respond on many occasions. Mitt Romney refused to allow the moderator to respond many times , referring to time limits.

Today, 12/21/12, an update near the end of President Barak Obama’s first term.

Obama has failed to correct the economy and to increase job opportunities for 23 million unemployed workers as promised. Today unemployment is 7.7% when not including those looking for work. The national debt has risen to $16 trillion on $5.4 trillion deficits for the past 4 years. Many of the President’s promises have yet to be accomplished.

In Nov, President Obama was elected to a second term by the people. The control of the Senate will remain Democrat. The House will remain in the Republican control. The ’’fiscal cliff’’ budget restrains scheduled to start on Jan. 2,2013 are a major problem for the President and Congress. The President continues to blame Congress, distorting the fact that ½ of Congress, the House, has already passed a bill to remedy the ’’fiscal cliff’’ problem. The Senate will be forced to take action on the bill to forestall the Jan 2013 calamity. In the past, Senator Reid’s refusal to put the passed House bills on the floor for a debate, amend and pass/reject should be noted. Denying the people’s elected Senators their rights to vote on legislation is a violation of the Senator’s oath of office and the Constitution

The solutions are simple. Cut wasteful spending and follow the law and the Constitution..

ON 2/13/10, the majority controlled Congress (the House and Senate) passed PAY-GO. law. The President signed the legislation into law. The economical problems are that the government is spending more than what the treasury takes in.

Why is it that the DEMOCRATS ignore the law? The Republican plan denies the rich their write offs hence they pay more in taxes. The President wants $ 1 trillion in revenue, he hasn't offered $1 trillion in cuts. The House passed a bill that accomplishes both revenue and cuts to comply with the law. The solution is simple, cut waste and follow the law.

On friday,12/28/12, Obama has a closed door meeting with Congressional leaders of the Senate and the House. The President will attempt to forge an agreement of both sides to avoid the oncoming fiscal cliff.

Prior to President Obama's election, the President promised transparency in his administration. Obama has broken his promise many times since he was elected.

The ''fiscal cliff'' debate should be a public event in open Congress session for all the people to witness. Senators have not been given their right to debate, amend and vote on the HOUSE BILL, recently passed by a majority vote.Let us remember the President's promise to allow C-Span to broadcast the vote.

6.To have an open transparent government and to allow C-Span to televise the debates and Congressional meetings

A simple solution is to follow the PAY-GO LAW and cut waste. Any tax increase requires a cut in today's budget( not in 10 years ) which equals a deficit neutral.

The HOUSE has accomplished that, the Senate needs to step up and pass a bill that Congress can get to the President for signature.

What mainstream media reported was the words that came before and after what your U-tube propaganda portrayed. I bet I could turn you into an atheist (assuming you are very religious) if I have enough footage of you making speeches and interviews.

Besides that, it is my understanding of the Constitution that religious tests are not allowed in order to hold public federal office.

1. Did Obama say he would bring back 10 million jobs in 2009, that is eleven months, even though the legacy of Bush was losing almost a million a month when Obama took office? Even Bush wasn't that dumb. What he did say was his stimulus would save or create about 4 million jobs over a few years, which it has.

2. Obama never signed the TARP, Bush did. Obama signed a $787 B stimulus. Both were needed to prevent a depression according to almost all economists of all stripes ... and they did.

3. Beyond having to spend to fix Bush's legacy, Obama HAS controlled spending. $3 T of today's debt is solely attributable the near depression itself, meaning the debt would have increased AT LEAST that much even if McCain had won.

4. Obama was naïve, but he has greatly deminished the role of lobbiest.

6. Obama was again naïve, but he probably has the most open administration of any President.

7. He would have closed Gitmo if Congress had let him, but, as we saw, Congressmen of both Parties were chicken; he is President, not King.

8. He did and he is, along the time table he set up.

9. That makes no sense.

11. I wonder if he could have if the conservatives weren't so concerned with defeating him rather than thinking of the good of the nation?

If the Democrats had such control since 2007 (meaning to use your argument, the Conservatives had control from 2004 - 2012, save for 2009 and 2010, since they either "controlled" at least one chamber through all of that period, both chambers through much of that period, and both chambers plus the Presidency for 8 of those years) then why have the conservatives been so successful, via the filibuster, of blocking every major Democratice iniative they didn't agree wholeheartedly with (at least until the point they saw the Republican Party disappearing before their eyes if they didn't allow a vote)?

No, CCB is not better than the sequester. The sequester can be changed by an act of Congress, just as it might be today by the House, if they go along with the Senate bill. Even if the sequester is allowed to happen, it is a one time bad deal that the economy will ultimately recover from. The same can't be said of a BBA, the B in CCB. The BBA lives on in perpetuity, unless changed by another amendment, periodically wreaking economic havoc anytime an emergency comes along.

Are you saying, by offering up the anecdote of stimulus money going to a district that didn't exist, that this is the way the vast majority of stimulus money was spent? If not, why bother with the anecdote if it simply represents a program that doesn't work 100% perfectly, which every reasonable minded person knows there are going to be some level of waste, fraud, and abuse.

I certainly wish the humans which run private sector businesses could be as perfect as you appear to expect civil servants to be; performing their job with zero waste, fraud, and abuse. Unfortunately for conservatives, the people hired or elected to be civil servants come from the same pool of flawed humanity that those who work for private business who end up stealing and wasting billions of dollars annually while at the same time occasionally destroying the lives of virtually powerless consumers and employees.

What is contradictory about the TARP repayment program, or is McCain simply using literary license since he knows very well that the the TARP program is a revolving fund, that had an initial capitalization of $700 B. Until Congress changes the law, any repayments, which I understand has exceeded the amount lent out now, sit there with authority to be used again, if the criteria of the TARP law plus amendments, are met.

Why blame it on the administration? If Congress doesn't like it, they can change it, after all, isn't that why they were elected?

John TARP is not the issue, it is the stimulus plan

TARP gave the institutions that created the economic collapse a financial reward for their incompetence and corruption.

The stimulus money was spent, and yet the economy still had 23 million people out of work, forty seven million people on food stamps.

Last year the Federal Reserve Board was infusing $40 billion dollars a month into the Mortgage Bases Securities and they said they would continue it every month until the economy started to recover. The securities were also one of the reasons that the economy collapsed in the first place.

Congress has failed the people and they continue to fail. Neither party has the solution, but the democrats have done the most damage to the country in the last one hundred years.

Democrat presidents created the red ink programs we call entitlements. They created it but congress didn't stop it or change it, so now they are being blamed for the failure of the economy not recovering.

A similar situation happened in stimulus funds that were not used or issues to a certain date. The Obama administration and the Democrats are spending and that is the major problems with the deficits.

Jon, as you noted the President was opposed and obstructed his first year almost a year before the Tea Party was born. I suggest you revise your 10 points of reference of 2009 and update your points to include 2014.

Jon Ewall:

I am not going to debate, but will offer these observations.

As a former news reporter, I refuse to watch Fox. I am not crazy about the all news networks, Fox is at the bottom of the list.

My IRA (former 401K) has increased in value.

Before the Affordable Care Act, I was unable to secure health insurance because of my age and prior health history. I had good insurance but los by job in 2010 without explanation--nice package, but insurance only lasted a year.

While I was without credible I had several hospital stays and cataract surgery on both eyes (could not be delayed)

My hospital wrote off one stay that cost $36,000. The $16,000 out of pocket was for co-pays, buying medicine from Canada and some low grade insurance that covered minor issues..

With my ACA coverage, I paid $700 a month in premiums, but all the medical bills were paid and I even paid all the co-pays and deductibles in about 9 months, so all coverage after that was 10 percent.

Mr. Obama is not the best President we ever had and certainly not the worse. He deserves some credit.

Those that want to repeal the ACA have not offered any meaningful alternatives that I have seen.

He made mistakes. All presidents have. Kennedy had the Bay of Pigs, Johnson expanded our presence in Vietnam, Nixon gave us Watergate, Ford kept the chair warm, Carter was not ready for foreign affairs, Reagan gave us the Iran-Contra affair, Clinton never had sex with that woman and let the USS Cole be captured, George H.W. Bush promised no new taxes then added 1 cent to the gasoline tax, George W. Bush and the gang were useless during Hurricane Katrina (I live in Louisiana).

The odd thing is I could take that same list and note the accomplishments of each. It is all a matter of attitude.

It is a bad law simply because of the actions of the president ignoring the will of the people and the law as written. Republicans were shut out of the debate, the actions of the 60 super majority Senate, the House and the majority members was NOT the way our government was intended to work on behalf of the people.

Larry Wall 20 months ago

A lot of the sources you quote are opinions, and everyone is entitled to an opinion.

If the law is not perfect, (tell me about any that are perfect) it will be amended over the years as needed. After I lost my job of 23 years without being given a cause, (severance pay was too good to risk on a multi-year court battle) I lost my company group policy. I could not buy insurance because of my age and prior health conditions. I had to buy my medications from Canada and ended up paying $16,000 out-of-pocket (line of credit that I have to repay) to get the care I needed. Last year, I had several hospital stays. I had treatment that corrected a voice problem that has been misdiagnosed for decades. I pay about $800 in premiums. I get a subsidy. In little more than a year, I will be on Medicare, another health plan that was knocked around for years. Obamacare works for me. Three of the links you provided are your personal opinions or your "own research" The rests were written before the law was fully implemented. The cries of doom are disappearing. People are learning about the policies and the benefits. The law is working, whether you want to accept it or not. I have told my story in other hubs, but I am not bothering to link them because you will disagree, and I do not want to get into an exchange of opinion with you beyond this point.

However, one last thing needs to be noted. You stated, "Republicans were shut out of the debate, the actions of the 60 super majority Senate, the House and the majority members were NOT the way our government was intended to work on behalf of the people." When did the majority vote become contrary to they way our government works. If the other party could have come up with a two-thirds vote in each house, they could have overturned the law. The Supreme Court, whether or not you agree, ruled it was constitutional. Prior presidents in the past have tried packing the court but were unable. If you do not like the law, write one you like. Take it to your senator or representative and see whether they will introduce it. I am assuming you are a Republican so finding an author should be easy. Finding agreement between the party members is going to be just as difficult.

I do not like the way the second amendment is being used to allow any person to own military-style weapons or possibly allow college students to carry concealed weapons on campus. I am not pleased with the Income Tax rules and regulations. I object to the Supreme Court rule on Abortion (my son is adopted) I got tired of Mitt Romney saying "I have a plan" but never revealing the plan. Our system of government is not perfect because we are not perfect.

I like Obamacare. I expect changes to be made. We have two major general hospitals in my city. The emergency room of one closed yesterday--not because of Obamacare, but because Obamacare was not enacted soon enough to help cover the cost of all the indigent patients, they saw in the portion of the city it has served for decades. White flight in the 60s took jobs and opportunities out of that area and the remaining residents did not have access to insurance because companies started offering part-time jobs and thus made those people ineligible for group insurance. I will not debate this with you. The links you presented are your own research and opinions. The other are opinions from newspapers and not objective news coverage--I know the difference. Partisan politics are a bigger issue than the actual law. Find something better and I will support it. Until then, let's work with what we have--it is actually working very well.

Thank you for a great response . We don’t need to debate Obamacare, just need to understand what and how Obamacare law has been enforced by President Obama and Congress.

The foundation of our government is the US Constitution and the LAWS of the land. ‘’ we are a nation of the rule of law’’, that’s a fact.

Your health ,age and income issues situation is covered in the ACA LAW, special conditions, of which has helped . My links written by me are actual watching of what occurred on the floor of Congress. The rules of Congress were not followed in passing the bill. This information is in the links, if you cared to view,

The checks and balances provided in our Constitution were not followed by the SUPER MAORITY Democrats and the President . When voting on a bill , the bill is required to be on the floor. After looking for the bill for some 20 or so minutes, the chairman said the bill was in another building. The voting commenced against the objection of a minority member. Amendments by the minority members were not allowed hence 0 aye votes from the minority.

There is so much that the public is un aware of what changes are being made to the law without Congressional approval. President Obama not following our laws and the Constitution should be a matter of impeachment.

'' it is actually working very well.''

My only comment is that there are rules in Congress that are not part of the constitution or even statutory law. Thus those rules can be altered, interpreted as desired and sometimes ignored. It is the rules in Congress, in my humble opinion, that causes the log jams, help long-time members, thwart new members and frustrate the public. The time for casting a vote is often extended, even though there is no rule to allow it.

However, through all of this imperfection, our nation has survived and flourished more so than any other country. We had our rough spots, but even with a misuse of cumbersome rules, I will take our system over any other system.

Now if you want to touch on a new subject, do you think Sen. Cotton, the man who wrote but never mailed the letter to the Iranians explaining in detail the limitations of the President in negotiating a treaty and implying that a treaty was unlikely, and an executive order could be overturned with the next Congress in two years. Now the atomic material that was going to Russia, which already has nuclear bombs, is going to stay in Iran, where they might decide they want to be a part of the nuclear club. Sen. Cotton is starting his campaign to be president, though he has not announced it. It is unlikely that he will get my vote.

'' Thus those rules can be altered, interpreted as desired and sometimes ignored ''. Yes they can but not by one man without a vote from the members except in a Obama administration and other party members not interested in following the rules of Congress or the US Constitution.

The agreement issues are not finalized as yet . the President's announcement today will need to be verified.to be continued

I am not going to debate this forever. You do not care for the lack of accomplishments of Mr. Obama. Your opinion of the man as an individual is not so clear and not totally relevant just as my opinion of the individual.

Congress misuse rules to block nominations, keep good legislation from getting out of committee and to extend the time for voting while a little congressional arm twisting takes place. The President has a right to lobby the members of Congress. If he does not talk to them, how will he learn and how will the congressmen learn. That is a nice theory, but if reality it does not exist because as George Washington warned in his farewell address, the development of political parties was not in the best interest of the country (I am paraphrasing from memory.) Partisan politics have help get some good projects through and has halted some that were less desirable. Some good appointments have been scuttled by party loyalty or more accurately by party leadership, offering perks such as committee assignments, better offices, promising to let their bill get out of a committee and so on.

I will not say the system is broken. It is just not being used as the founding fathers envisioned. I support the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, if you rather. I am in favor of the Keystone pipeline. I do not think it presents an unreasonable environmental hazard as some may believe. I think Congress can enact laws restricting the use and ownership of some types of weapons, without infringing upon the right to bear arms. I had a discussion with another hubber that the right to bear arms may not actually give individuals the absolute freedom to fire those arms. Yes, it is a word game, and that is what government is about, the manipulation of words, intent, and ideas. There are many ways of getting something through Congress and there are many ways to stall them. Allowing congressment to put holds on Presidential appointment nominees. without the congressman being identified is a horrible practice, but it is allowed. No one cares because it does not hit them directly.

We send soldiers into combat, and people are concern--some agree and some do not.

A law was enacted requiring everyone to have insurance that everyone does not like or feel is necessary. I have probably spent more than $300,000 on insurance money on hospital stays and surgeries over the past 15 years. My son who was in a near-fatal auto accident, caused by the other car that hit and ran, has incurred medical bills over $500,000. When he was on the policy at my former job, he was covered. Now because of the injuries and some physical disabilities (he is legally blind--not borderline blind, but must enlarge type on his computer to 18 points to read it at a distance of four inches. We need insurance reform in this country. We need younger people who are healthy to start paying premiums that will provide coverage when they are older and the process needs to continue generation to generation.

Frankly, I have forgotten what the original discussion is about. I believe you do not care for Mr. Obama. Looking back you mentioned scandals in the Obama administration. Do they exceed Nixon's Watergate, Reagan's Iran-Contra dealings, Jimmy Carter's inability to free the hostages in Iran, and the lack in protecting the USS Cole in the Clinton years? Lincoln suspended the right of habeas corpus, and the list goes on.

Obama is president. He will finish his term, write another book, will have a library dedicated to him and in 20 to 30 years be remembered as the first black President and possibly being the first president to enact a health-care bill. Clinton tried and failed. They have one thing in common, both are Democrats.

I do not belong to any political party, thus I am free to make my own decisions...

L W thank you for your replys. There are many citizens that have been helped by Obamacare, you are part of a minority. Your next eye opener will be Medicare.

Larry Wall 20 months ago

Thank you for your comments. I helped my mother and my mother-in-law navigate Medicare. I am beginning to start my own search. Based on what my former secretary has told me, one of the advantage plans will work best for me. My wife will go on first and I will have to wait seven months. I will make it work. I had my Obama insurance raise the copay on a prescription from $30 to $70. We had a discussion. I am now paying $10. You just have to learn how to work the system. The secret is not to wait to the last minute. Start planning early and learn as much as you can and if you do not understand it, ask for help. It is not perfect. I got caught on the errors made regarding how much aid I was entitled too and now owe $1,000. I share part of the blame because I inaccurately estimated my 2014 income when I applied in 2013 and did not report the change--forgot that I needed to. I am paying the difference this year.

Like I said, a good debate and I extend to you and your family a joyous Easter.

Where is/was the media to report?

Larry Wall 20 months ago

I thought we were finished.

You Tube does not count as a legitimate news source.

Unless a Youtube video was doing something to endanger the national defense, the First Amendment would prevent it from being banned. It was banned, those that offered it were not willing to fight for their right to free speech, and since it is available on You Tube, it is not banned. You have something of a paradox to face.

Now I will agree that the media takes the easy way out sometimes. Unfortunately, we have a generation of news executives and reporters who are not following in the footsteps of Edward R. Murrow, Chet Huntley and David Brinkley, Frank McGee, Drew Person, Maggie Higgins, just to name a few. The failure in the news not being reported completely and fairly does the rest of the media, which is so concerned with filling up 24 hours every single day, they need to make every demand they can to the government for the details behind the headlines.. I do not watch the 24-hour stations, with a few minor exceptions. I read newspapers off the Internet, but they are going downhill. Things will turn around and when they do, some of the claims you are making may be proved and others may be debunked.

As a reporter, I stopped corruption before it happened. I kept a library in a minority area opened, before the lawmakers could close it. I started the editorial campaign at the paper where I work to establish a new form of parish (county) government. I wrote the story that led to a police chief being arrested for theft, and I covered a serial killer, who killed four children. I never call the parents to ask how they felt. I call the police several times a day to find if there was anything new. I do not want to get on a soapbox, but everything you see or read is not news. Much of it lacks the basic ingredients of reliable and identifiable sources, accurate reporting of the information and seeking comments from leaders who may have an opposing opinion.

Just because it made it to You Tube, does not give it any value. Something important may surface on You Tube, but until a proper follow-up is made, it is not news, it is something less.

I left my newspaper job in a small town because my son needed medical attention not available in a thereand after 13 years of reporting and writing pages of news and two opinion columns each week, I needed a position that would require fewer hours. I got a PR job. The pay was good, but my newspaper career was my greatest job.
