This is progressivism in action, better solutions to age old problems.

Portugal releases it's 10 year report after the semi legalisation of posession of ALL drugs and massive government sponsored campaigns for safe syringe use. The results are spectacular, a 50% reduction in severe drug abuse and excellent HIV reduction statistics. People charged with posession or use no longer need to go before the court but rather before a community jury with the intent of aiding the addict rather than punishing him, the results speak for themselves.

That's fantastic news! Thanks for the link. If we would follow suit we would unload the overcrowded prisons, save tax payers millions, and actually deal with the root problem; improving society as a whole. Makes so much common sense, we will probably never even try...(Our government probably collects A LOT of back door money in our "drug war")

That's liberty in action, but I won't labour the point wink

But yes, more proof that violence does not solve our problems - you cannot have a 'war' on an inanimate object. Let us forgo all the emotional baggage and meme-ified prejudices about drugs and do the right thing.

Isn't the government waging a war on an inatimate object right now, guns?

Only in the talking points of the NRA and Fox News. In the reality-based world, the government is trying to enact common-sense regulation to keep the most dangerous weapons out of the hands of the criminally insane. The "war on guns" is a right-wing myth.

Only in the talking points of the leftist media are guns safe.  In the reality-based world, politicians lie.  Look at what Harry Reid said last November in order to get elected.  What was it?  "This gun is my friend."  Yeah, it was his friend while he was in the midst of a difficult election and he needed the NRA's support.  Now, he wants gun control.  These are the same politicians I'm supposed to trust?

When liberals say that politicians will never attempt to infringe upon the second amendment, that is a left-wing myth.

Yeah, it's not like Feinstein and Holder have publicly stated that they want to take away all guns from citizens...

          (hint: they have)

No it isn't, but the war on women is a left wing myth.

It's a way for democrats to get elected.  Produce a mythical war on women, so you can get more votes.  Agreed.

You have to have victims so you can pretend to save them.

What demographic is needed most by the democrats now, perhaps the gun owners of America.  Next, you'll see democrats swoop in and save the gun owners.  After all, President Obama is an avid skeet shooter.

Oh really, so when R/R said straight TO THE CAMERA..."We WILL overturn Roe v Wade" that was a myth? When they said health insurance should NOT cover the cost of birth control, that was a myth? NO. not a myth, it actually happened....quite unlike when Obama looked straight in THE CAMERA and said we are NOT banning ALL weapons, we are NOT confiscating weapons! roll

Drug prohibition has not kept drugs out of the hands of criminals, so I don't see how anybody should expect it to be different with gun prohibition.

            innersmiff,

You're making too much sense for the gun debate.  Good point.

            Best wishes.

Good point. Although I still see no need for Americans to have military weapons, your point makes perfect sense.

Semi-automatic rifles are not military weapons.

Making people go before community councils is no more libertarian than court, the difference is between the state punishing addicts and the state helping addicts recover.
The war on drugs however is a point of complete agreement, stupid beyond belief.

No argument from me. We should have learned our lesson with prohibition.
