Was there ever any real doubt that they were there OR that they would be used? Given the WMD fiasco in Iraq I can certainly understand why we didn't move much earlier, but this should not come as a surprise.
I do find the comment from Sen. Bill Nelson to be both funny and sad at the same time.
"We cannot be absolutely sure about the extent to which Assad's forces have used chemical weapons, although we know they have them,"
What's the message he's really saying? That it takes 16 (or some other predetermine number) of uses before we act? That it doesn't matter how many times it's used he'll say the same thing? He did say that we should stay out of Syria - is that to be the perpetual excuse? That we don't know how many times it will be used?
Sorry for hijacking the thread, I just find our politicians so pathetic.

Given it was not proven that the Syrian government was involved in the Ghouta attack, why would they have to dismantle their chemical arsenal whereas few miles away a greater danger is shadowing the whole middle east...
