It's the anniversary of 9/11. For me, the tragedy has been distorted and too often used as an excuse for scary nationalism, ugly intolerance, and irrational blaming. After today, I've made a promise to myself to boycott my Facebook page on 9/11. The ease with which some of my friend post hate-filled images is startling. What I'm seeing is a reminder of how we, as a nation, allowed fear and the thirst for revenge to overcome reason, resulting in the waste of lives and resources in Iraq and the erosion of our civil liberties.
For me, 9/11 has come to represent fear and stupidity. What does it mean for you?
