Within every cloud is a silver lining - there is more nuclear power produced today than the world produced from all sources in 1960.  Countries range up to 75% nuclear electricity, without which basic survival would not be possible for a vast number of people.

It's not ALL bad, just one small niche of it.

There are a total of 17000 nuclear warheads with over 4000 currently active.

Hey we can destroy the planet twice over.

But at least we will be able to keep the lights on..........

And the refrigerators going, and keep air clean enough (generally) to breathe.  The world today operates on energy, and it is absolutely necessary for our daily survival.  Whether there are 17,000 warheads (mostly disabled) out there or 17,000,000 we still need energy.  Energy which is about 12% supplied by nuclear power, and which will increase in the future with fusion.
