“My administration is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in government. We will work together to ensure the public trust and establish a system of transparency, public participation and collaboration. Openness will strengthen our democracy and promote efficiency and effectiveness in government.”

    — President Barack Obama

There's an exciting feature on President Barack Obama's official website, called: We the People. It's based on a very simplistic philosophy: If you have the knowledge of any issue that you think is affecting public life, and something that you think that it requires to be addressed by the White House: then, you may start a petition at this address. More details to be found here.

My question is: Have you previously heard of this feature? If not, do you think it's not a scam?

Yes, I have heard of this feature. I've even used it to sign petitions over the past five years (haven't started one). No, it's not a scam.
