Unfortunately, and this just in:  Congress will censure Joe Wilson.  lol  Of course.

And his democratic competition in South Carolina has now raised over one million dollars in support.

wink  Sorry, these antics just don't work in real life.  Salute to real power.

Why should he? There have been many outbursts in Congress over our 233 years. Congressmen have the 1st amendment right just like the rest of us. He apologized to Obama and it was accepted.

    1. Strophios profile image60
Strophiosposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Not during a speech though, at least not one in front of a joint session of Congress, and certainly not by a congressman. It also helped that Bush actually did lie.

      1. tksensei profile image61
tksenseiposted 14 years agoin reply to this

No he didn't, and he was roundly booed by those 'classy' dems during a joint session of Congress.

        1. Strophios profile image60
Strophiosposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Ah, but not called a liar. Despite, more to the point, being one. See Iraq, for example. Or if you want a most specific instance, the resignation of Colin Powell. Bush before election: no, I don't think he'll resign. After election, when asked if he'd known: Yes, but I didn't want to tell you.

That whole thing was a pile of garbage anyways. The only reason he chose to make an address in that format was to avoid televised confrontation. The first time in US history a President of the United States has abused an address to Congress in such a way. I give you the town hall meetings. Here in NH, when Obama was in Portsmouth, that audience was weeded better than the Whitehouse lawn. Anybody with anything real to say or ask was kept outside amongst the picketing riffraff.

What gets me is why everyone is so upset about this.

Of course Obama lies. He's a politician. They all lie, no matter what side of the political fence that they live on. Democrats, Republicans, The Tories, The Liberal Party, whoever, politicians can never be counted on to be telling the truth.

Wilson said what we all know, but he didn't tell the whole truth. He should have shouted, "WE LIE!"

BTW, how do you tell when a politician is lying?

    His lips are moving.

  19. bgpappa profile image78
    bgpappaposted 14 years ago

Joe Wilson apologized, Obama accepted, should have been the end of it.

But really, throw a shoe at him.  Why are so many treating Obama with such little respect when he rendering his duties as President.

A speech against Obama is fine.  Rallies are fine.  No disrespect there, 1st Amendment rights and they should be applauded.

But on the floor of Congress during a Live Speech.  Disrepctful not to Obama, but to the Office.  If Democrats had done that to Bush under those circumstances, Hannity, O'Reilly and Fox News would have blown a gasket, and with good reason.

The democrats just publicly censured Wilson.  That should be worth the kleenex that you sneeze into.  It's so bizarre, you have a tax cheat being Obama's PR guy and Wilson gets censured for an outburst which turns out to be the truth.

The world is slowly turning upside down.

    1. livelonger profile image85
livelongerposted 14 years agoin reply to this

If a Democrat broke the rules of decorum screamed in the middle of Bush's speech, would your reaction be the same?

And please, don't bother pointing out each politicians legal/ethical foibles (in either party). A list of actually "clean" politicians would be far, far shorter.

      1. Flightkeeper profile image67
Flightkeeperposted 14 years agoin reply to this

We all know that this is all just posturing on the part of the democrats.  He's already apologized to the president and it was accepted. And if the democrats were so eager to keep to the decorum that they scream so loudly about now, how come they didn't censure themselves when they booed Bush during his State of the Union Speech?

        1. livelonger profile image85
livelongerposted 14 years agoin reply to this

It was 2005 and the Republicans were in power. I'd certainly support censure against whoever booed Bush.

Nice, um, save. Good thing to read something first before reacting, right?

The party in power has the majority to set things in motion. Besides, parties police their opposition. smile
