A proposal by William Shuster, R-Pa. would cut funding for measures that require more pilot training, rest and other factors intended to boost flight safety (a result of the 2009 Flt 3407 crash). This is a part of the overall FAA Re-Authorization Bill.
Aviation safety expert/pilot "Solly" Solenberg has been battling for these upgrades and states that they are vital.
Also at risk is the upgrade of our antiquated Air Traffic Control system, which lags behind many other countries (who have upgraded to technically advanced GPS systems).
Can air safety be improved (or even maintained) while the FAA's budget is cut?
