Does Chomsky really desrve this award? And doesn't this act cement the fact that the Prize Committee is a joke, along with this award.

-Leftist guru Noam Chomsky has been awarded the Sydney Peace Prize.

This is yet more proof that we live in an age in which “peace prizes” are worth less than the prizes kids find at the bottom of Cracker Jack boxes.

Look at the case of President Barack Obama. A few months after he was inaugurated, Obama, who is now presiding over three wars on two continents, received a Nobel Peace Prize. His most significant accomplishment when nominations for the prize closed on Feb. 1, 2009, just 12 days into his term of office, had been to throw a Super Bowl party.

The Godfather of Terror, Yasser Arafat, received a Nobel Peace Prize in 1994. Serial liar Rigoberta Menchu, a Communist agent who worked for the same terrorists who later killed members of her own family, somehow hornswoggled her way into one in 1992.-

I bet the Left is jumping for joy at this one.

Sorry, my mistake. Wasn't the Nobel... but still.  I was reading this and had nobel on the brain because of the numorous refrences to it. So no biggie. But the question still stands. Is the Nobel, or any other peace prize, anything more than a joke in this day.

Without looking into it I would assume Chomsky got it because his academic work on language showed how people are essentially the same all over the world. In which case I totally see why he would get it.

p.s.  I know Chomsky's work in the area if linguistics and have no idea whatsoever of his nationality or politics.

They do not really name why they gave it to him, the committee that is, but I find it hard to apply his linguistics work to that prize. But you never know these days.

Chomsky is one of the world's leading linguists - at the point where linguistics and philosophy meet.  His work is important because it deals with the analysis of information texts - if you don't like what he does you should be criticising the American people who have been exposed as lying to the American people, cheating the people, etc.,  that these are predominantly, but not exclusively, far right wing is just how it is.
