Republicans Bite Conservative Columnist

One of our leading conservative forum participants here on Hubpages supports the Republicans in giving  Obama a hard time over the budget. He posts new forum topics nearly every day about how he hates Obama and Obama should not be re-elected.

Now he has discovered that his own benefits are on the table, and he says on his web site that his particular benefits should not be cut!

He can dish it out but he can't take the consequences of what his friends are up to. Hypocrite!

Sounds about right, people are always against something until it effects them personally. Look at airport security, it was okay when it was only people who looked Muslm.

I do not like Obama policies, but we do not need to make threats on not paying the elderly. This was a guarentee for paying in all those years. now I do not know much about law, but SS payment come from a SS trust fund, not from the general fund. If Obama has no money in the trust fund, he has some explaining to do. The fund is not do to run out for 20 years. So who is misleading who?

If no changes are made to system, around 2017 Social Security payments will begin to exceed Payroll tax receipts. Even if changes are made, at some point in the next few decades, payments will exceed receipts.

At that point, the Trust Fund will begin redeeming the special Treasuries. In order to pay these Treasuries back, the U.S. government will either have to raise income taxes or (more likely) borrow additional amounts, i.e., real Treasuries.

Under the current rules, and depending upon future economic growth, the Social Security Trust Fund is projected to be depleted sometime between 2042 and 2052. Once the Trust Fund is depleted, we get to the Unfunded (i.e. $13.6 Trillion) part of our Social Security future.

Assets grew from about $47 billion at the end of December 1986 to about $2,609 billion ($2.6 trillion) by the end of December 2010.

2.6 Trillion in SS trust fund and Obama is trying to tell you he cannot pay. Can you say he suffers from full of S***ness

no--I'd say he's trying to meet your buffoons half-way. WHO have hated SS since its inception!

Hated any and all social programs....call it socialist, communist, don't take MY money blah blah BLAH.

He offered them just what they have been bleating for for decades....and they didn't take it!!!

Caues you know, it's Obama---the one they have to destroy.

And I heard differently. I heard that SS fine til 2037...then all you would have to do to fix it is remove the cap on FICA!!!

Shoot, they should do that NOW....solve it in an INSTANT. But they can't ...that's the big money people right there....can't touch. OHHHHHH no no no no NOOO.

            LMC,

I got the info from a SS trust find report. I will not argue the date, but even with your date of 2037, you prove my point, there is money in the trust fund to pay the SS checks since they do not come from the General fund. So using SS checks as hostage is nothing more than scare tactics. But if he is right, then where did the money that was in the trust fund account as of 4, 2011? Where did the 2.6 trillion go?

Tax cuts do not come out od SS trust fund so that does not fly. I am curious. You have thrown Beckle under the bus a number of times before today. He is a democratic strategest and advisor. He is on your side, why don't you like him? I am not asking to debate, I am truly curious

LMC, I stand corrected, I thought you meant Bob Beckle. You said "Beckles" I did not even think of Beck, he is usless to everyone and I am glad he is gone. My appologies for the mistake. You got me on that one. Glad I asked.

Reminds me of a video clip I saw once...wish I could find it..laughed out loud!
This guy was going on and on and on about the welfare cheats, the social security takers, the no-good-lazy bums, etc etc. So the interviewer asks him, "How much do you pay in taxes?" "Oh, I don't work. I'm, retired!"

It's fine for me, the OTHER bums, you gotta worry about!!

"Look at airport security, it was okay when it was only people who looked Muslm."

    EXCELLENT point!

    well, not necessarily.

Social Security was a deal promised to all citizens alive today. The government needs to fulfill their promises (although, at this rate, I don't see how it will be possible).

The problem coming into question, however, is the idiotic scare tactics that Obama and the Democrats are using (I know it's cliched to hate the Democrats and Obama, but it's true). The Republicans are also to blame:

The demands for cuts DO NOT HAVE TO COME FROM SOCIAL SECURITY.

    BRING THE TROOPS HOME.

    Ron Paul, 2012.

Not a 'big picture' kind of person, are you?

I agree that it is ridiculous for someone to take a particular stance on something but they need to stick to that stance, even if it inconveniences them.  It is hypocritical for a person to dislike something until it affects them... but at the same time, this country is still in the tank, and there is NO compromise coming from either side of this debate.

if there were compromise, true and valuable compromise, not this silly crap that both sides are throwing around, then we'd already have a balanced budget, we'd have no need to raise the debt ceiling every 4 months.

This country can maintain without others spending our money.  The whole thing has gotten seriously out of hand.

The Repubs got their Bush tax cuts renewed....got regs watered down, blocked appointments, treated the president like crap, and he has now agreed to cut ss, medicare and medicaide.....

I'd say Obama has given ENUFF!

Time  for the party of NO to get off their hig-horse and stop acting like the world still revolves around them.

        LMC,

I have not seen regs get watered down, in fact Obama put in toughter EPA laws including on cars. I agree with those.
Cannot argue Obama get some mistreatment, not like he does not dish it out, not like Dems were so respectful to Bush, Repubs were about 50-50 on respecting Clinton, Bush senoir was not respected much, and all the dems did was complain the entire time Reagan was President. What I am saying is both sides do it and it needs to stop. nlesws I missed something, Obama has not agreed to those cuts, he said he would be open to looking at the system to see how to fix it.

"What I am saying is both sides do it"

I have NEVER seen an opposing party refuse to work with a president like these repubs. Ever.
          Call him a liar
          Refuse to meet with him
Admit their top priority is to get him out
Slur his every action as the work of some crazy socialist fiend....

At LEAST when 9/11 happenes...the whole country was respectful to Bush.
So-called Bin-Laden gets killed on Obama's watch, and STILL it's not enough for some respect!

These people are not even human, as far as I'm concerned...they are some form of virus infecting our country.
          And I want THEM gone!

(But I do appreciate your tone in response to me....it is nicer than usual.)

You mean like when the Wisconsin Democrats all left the state so that there would be no quorum for a vote?  Followed by the same trick from the Democrats in Indiana?
