“Gandhi was inevitable. If humanity is to progress, Gandhi is inescapable. He lived, thought and acted, inspired by the vision of humanity evolving toward a world of peace and harmony. We may ignore Gandhi at our own risk.”

    - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth.”

    - Albert Einstein

Ghandi was definitely a statesman. Politicians are hustlers for votes. I don't recall Ghandi running for office with a business plan, a publicist, and a marketing guru! ha ha!

One thing - he provided us a technique to fight with the weasels - without bloodshed. He was bigger than a politician perhaps.

Has to Eugene Debs.  He ran for President on the Socilist Party ticket while his was in jail in 1920.  Ghandi wouldn't qualify as a politician.  He wasn't a sneak, a liar, a thief, or a womanizer, qualities we all expect to find in a true politician.
