One of my friends had been talking about the dire straits he was in to a friend of his who volunteered to lend some money in a few days. This guy, taking the friend's words to be true, called him after a few days. Each time the man said he would call him right back and cut off the line. This poor sod waited every time but no dice. Only after this happened 3 times did he realize that the man had taken him for a ride, though did not actually steal his money.
When he happened to meet the man again, he had the temerity to act as though nothing had happened between them. Neither of them referred to the episode.
Is my friend right in not bringing up the subject at all? He says he is sufficiently decent not to evoke the subject.
