God's Ten Commandments / Society's Moral Guidelines
Our Moral Guidelines
God's ten commandments (Exodus 20 in your bible) were outlawed by the U.S. Supreme Court, forbidden to be taught in public schools since the mid 1960's. Yet they are the law of God (a Supreme Being), handed down to Moses for all generations without exception. The ten commandments were sent to be a blessing for God's people, moral guidelines to show us how to use our freedom and keep it.
When we live in accordance with these ten guidelines, we live well and in sinc with God's grace. They're intent is to be laws of the heart and to led us to fullness of life.
Kelton Research conducted a poll of 1,000 people a few years ago to test their knowledge of Big Mac ingredients vs. The 10 commandments. I was amazed at the results! 80% knew that the "Big Mac" had two all-beef paddies, while just over 50% knew that "Thou shalt not kill" was one of God's commandments. Only 14% knew all ten commandments in the bible.
One Nation Under God With Liberty and Justice For All?
As you look around the world we live in today, specifically here in the United States. Can you see where ignoring God's Ten Commandments has brought us? The decision of the Supreme Court to ensure the separation of church and state prevented many youngsters from learning the biblical Ten Commandments, which hold the secret to a sweeping moral and spiritual awakening in the U.S.
Abraham Lincoln was a God fearing man and once said something to the effect of... This nation can never be conquered by a foreign power but thought the demise of this nation can come from within itself and almost did between 1860 - 1865. Many believed during the Civil War, our nation was paying for the injustice of slavery by the blood of their sons, fathers and husbands. A judgment handed down from the Highest Court.
We are a nation that was founded on biblical principals and received the Lord's blessing for 200 years or so. However, since the 1960's the Secularists have worked hard to eliminate biblical principals in government and educational institutions. Public schools through out the Bible and are now installing metal detectors. Corruption is running ramped in government, Wall Street and business.
How is it that we've strayed so far from the Lord? We are a nation that must turn our course toward the ways of God the Almighty, not away from His way. What happens when a nation looses the Lord's blessing? It becomes cursed.
It is crucial to read and meditate on God's word. Joshua 1:8-9 says... "Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth, meditate on it day and night so that you will be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
The Holy Bible is our blueprint for a successful life.
Civilization Without Morals
Historically, civilizations that have obeyed the biblical ten commandments have prospered while civilizations that disobey this doctrine have vanished, buried in the bone yard of human history.
Look at our society today, high crime rates, high divorce rates, no respect of authority and so on. They took the bible out of public schools and installed metal detectors. Can you remember a time when people didn't have to lock their doors at night? Now folks is some neighborhoods put bars over their windows and doors, locking themselves in their own cage. Is this where ignoring the ten commandments has brought us? Is the Supreme Court partially responsible for the state of our society today, because they ejected God's 10 commandments from public schools?
Imagine for a moment that everyone around the world obeyed the sixth commandment, "You shall not murder." and 8th commandment, "You shall not steal." Our world would practically be free of crime, with little need of jails or prisons.
What about the ninth commandment, "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor." In other words, you shall not lie! The folly of political correctness would be a thing of the past and corruption would be severely limited as people rediscover how to tell the truth.
Consider the first commandment, "You shall have no other gods before me." It's impossible to serve two gods, as Jesus said, "No one can serve two masters. You will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot both serve God and money" (Matthew 6:24). Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness and all your needs will be provided for you.
Second commandment... "You shall not worship idols" (do not practice idolatry). God Almighty is a jealous God and will punish the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate him. But shows love to those who love Him and keep His commandments.
The truth of the matter is this, whether you know it or not... everyone worships something. In a person's heart, the things that they value the most are also the things they worship. It could be money, self-love, power or even material items.
Listen, the third commandment when broken is like kicking dirt into the face of the Almighty. "You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses His name."
I must confess, I am guilty of doing this during brief moments of anger but now I've learned to bite my tongue, because I have grown to know it is a serious matter. His name is holy, there are four living creatures around His throne and they never stop saying, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty who was and is and is to come" (Revelation 5:8).
Thank God that He has given us a redeemer to take away our sin through the blood of Christ, Jesus!
"Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy", is the 4th commandment. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, also everything that is in them but He rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. The world has become so busy and complicated, it is truly difficult to reserve one day of the week for worship.
Perhaps you are wondering... God handed down His commandments to the Jewish people. So why do they concern me, you ask? I'm glad you asked, because there is only one true God and He chose to make a covenant with the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. It is through these people that the nations of the earth receive their blessing (see Genesis 28:14). In the eyes of the Lord there are only Jews and gentiles, if you are not Jewish than you are a gentile.
The fifth commandment, "Honor your father and mother so that you may live long in the land the Lord is giving you."
Those who honor their father and mother are likely to take care of them when they reach the age where it is difficult for mom and dad to take care of themselves, instead when parents become old they are often put away into an institution and their assets or wealth are taken by the state to be spent as the state sees fit.
"You shall not commit adultery." This is God's seventh commandment. Adultery is having extramarital sex that willfully and maliciously interferes with marriage relations, also engaging in premarital sex. If this doctrine was kept by the masses, imagine how much the divorce rate, broken families and unwanted pregnancies would decline.
The tenth commandment states, "You shall not covet your neighbor's house or anything that belongs to your neighbor." Covet means to want, long, or crave for something (envy). When you covet someone's belongings, you very well could be tempted to take them.
