My Way Of Helping A Child
I didn't make any new years resolutions this year. I know I can't keep them. Instead I made a decisions to contribute to the H.O.W. movement. In my first H.O.W. hub, I wrote about what I wanted to do to help those people who need our help. One of the things I wanted to do was to help one or more people by sponsoring an organization. I also wrote about a woman who took care of me when I was a child and how she affected me by having a sponsored child.
I've had a few comments on that hub so far. One of the comments was from bravewarrior, who suggested I would take a look at Children International. I went to their web site to read more about the organization and what you can do for children living in poverty around the world.
It seemed like a very good organizations and I decided that NOW was the right time to do what I always wanted to do, and that was to sponsor a child somewhere else in the world by paying an amount of money every month. Children International have agencies in Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Mexico, Philippines, United States and Zambia.
You can choose to sponsor children in ages 0-17. You can also choose from what country you want a child. They provide you with a little information about the child, its family and the living conditions. H.O.W. could I choose one of these children? There were so many children who need help! I decided that I just had to choose someone who had been waiting for a sponsor a long time. I found this sweet looking boy named Albert. He is 4 years old and lives in Dominican Republic with his parents and his three siblings. He had been waiting for a sponsor for more that 900 days. Some of the children had been waiting for just some days or weeks. Albert was my choice.
I made my first payment today and I will contunue donating $25 every month. That's only about 2 % of my monthly salary, but with that sum I can provide Albert with medical and dental care, emergency food, educational support, family assistance, clothes, shoes and more things he could need.
Finally I have made a decision to do something good for someone who really needs it. It's going to be interested to get to know Albert by writing letters and see him grow up. Maybe I can even meet him some day. He's in the same age as my own children. Who knows, maybe they will meet one day too and share their thoughts, learn from each other and become friends. You'll never know.
By sponsoring a child like Albert, I feel good inside. I really hope this can change Albert's life and the life for his family for the better. I can't think of better start on a new year. I guess this is the best thing I have done in a long time for someone else. Now I just need to take care of the people around me and try to be kind, nice and helpful, because I'm up for billybuc's ”H.O.W. To Make A Difference: The 365/365 Challenge”.
We can change to world for the better as long as we do it together. Happy New Year!

This is my first hub about H.O.W. I have written about my reactions when I forst heard of H.O.W. It's about my family and what's important in life, and also about what we can do to help people in need.
