Fort Worth, Texas Leadership Morals - NOT (Part I)
It has come to my attention that on April 20, 2009 Code Enforcement of Fort Worth Texas will make an example of a person that is unable to fix a rental home he owns.
Code Enforcement wants this person to tear down this home or fix it to meet code. It is a small home just a bedroom and combo living room/kitchen. It is located in the Morningside area of Fort Worth.
To demolish this home costs about $2,500.00. To fix the home costs about $5,000.00. This person has, in the past, fixed the home many times. Each and every time the drug addicts and gangs break in and ransack the home. They take the copper wire out of the walls, they take the sink and hot water heater and anything else they can sell to buy a fix. The police say they cannot be there 24/7 and besides they have a city to protect, not just that one property.
So on Monday April 20, 2009 this person will appear in court and get sentenced for “Maintaining a substandard structure”. He will in all probability go to jail because he has no money to pay a fine. I know this person. He has no money to either fix or demolish the home. Therefore the only thing they can do is send him to jail.
In making this person an example it will cost the city a large sum of money. This person is up in age, over sixty, and he is in a wheelchair and needs an attendant. Among other things he has a heart condition and is a diabetic. He has other health problems that require him to maintain a special diet. In fact there may be a good chance that this will end up a death sentence for him.
In selecting this person to set an example, the city of Fort Worth, Texas has also chosen this person to define the morals of the leadership of Fort Worth, Texas.
The leadership of Fort Worth, Texas wants every one to know that they feel that not having sufficient money to maintain a home is a crime punishable by imprisonment. The leadership of Fort Worth, Texas wants you to know that being old, frail, infirm and physically challenged will not be tolerated as an excuse for not complying with Code Enforcement.
The implied message from the leadership of Fort Worth, Texas is that if you are up in years, physically challenged and don’t have sufficient money to paint your house whenever they say paint it then you need to get out of town. They do not want you here. You are not welcome here. And if you refuse to leave then they might just lock you up.
