William “Bill” Whitmire was born in the spring of 1957 in Western Massachusetts. Born to German parents he enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports and science. Taking a liking to the combat arts he spent a lot of time in boxing gyms and martial arts studios. Just shy of 13 he was promoted to the coveted Black Belt and began learning the art of instructing. He spent many hours both training himself and others. Bill spent a lot of time in the Catholic Church serving as a volunteer and youth leader. Upon graduating from high school Whitmire joined the U.S. Marine Corps completing training at Parris Island, SC in 1975. Transferring to California he was stationed at Camp Pendleton for the next few years. After discharge from the Marine Corp Whitmire traveled to northern California where he began instructing students in Okinawa Karate while attending Napa State College. Whitmire also worked in the physical education department as a strength coach. Traveling to Maine on a short vacation he met his wife and shortly thereafter was married. Whitmire has two children, a son and a daughter. He has spent the last twenty years working in both the business and non-profit sectors where his teaching, writing and business skills have helped to change the lives of hundreds of individuals. Now single, Whitmire enjoys creative writing, speech making and research. Bill currently works as a freelance writer in Portland, Maine.
