BookFlame on HubPages

I've been at the publishing and writing game relentlessly for a long time, so I've stacked up a resume full of experience, but only because I kept at it. I've burned out 2-3 times, but always went back. I doubt many people could top the number of rejection slips i've amassed in this time.  But I learned that each rejection brings you closer to an inevitable (some day) acceptance.

I've been widely published as an author, editor, book critic, and anonymous ghostwriter, and have served (and continue to do so) as a writing and publishing consultant. I am also a former book publishing executive in marketing and editorial depts.

My work has appeared in Publishers Weekly, the L.A. Times, the L.A. Times Book Review, BookPage and many other magazines and journals. I am a former voting member of the National Book Critics' Circle.

I have published many books, both under my own name and books written for others.

Other than books and writing, my interests and activites are very out-doorsy.  I'm an over-the-top animal lover (my husband says it's so ingrained, it has to be genetic), and have 6 rescued dogs, 2 horses and a pony. I'm also nutty about gardening (I always put in a vegetable garden in the spring) and wildlife behavior and observation.

I live on a small farm next to 30 acres of woods and have plenty opportunites to spy on all kinds of wildlife.  Just yesterday three huge fat wild turkeys strolled through my front yard. Quite a spectacle.  If you've read Mark Twain's story, "Hunting the Deceitful Turkey," you'll even understand better the priviledge this was!

I'm looking forward to meeting lots of other writerly hubbers.  Writing is of necessity a solitary and often lonely pursuit, and we writers need to encourage and support one another!

My husband Bruce is in the book biz too.  We work together at our company, Literary Management group LLC, which we founded in 1990.

At LMG we provide an interface between authors and publishers for the sale and licensing of intellectual property rights and develop and package books for publication for major trade publishers like Random House, Simon & Schuster and HarperCollins.
