Welcome to my Bio! My name is Paula and I'm here because I love to write and I enjoy reading other writers' works. Writing has been a passion of mine for over 30 years. I have written many poems throughout my life, with several of those being published, and have also written three children's books that I haven't published yet.
Currently I work as an Administrative Assistant 3 and Public Disclosure Officer in an enforcement office that monitors nursing homes, boarding homes, and adult family homes. I recently obtained my Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a diploma in Forensic Science, so I'm looking to spread my wings to find a more rewarding job. I also have a license as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.
I'm a strong advocate for protecting vulnerable adults and children and am currently a volunteer on a Yakima County Task Force that focuses on preventing elder abuse and neglect. Our Task Force put together a first annual conference held on March 18, 2008. It went very well for a first time conference which was a miracle! We're planning on holding a yearly conference to alert the community and professionals on the importance of learning about and stopping the growing incidents of elder abuse and neglect, We focus on what elder abuse and neglect is, what to look for, and how to report it.
My background experience and knowledge includes a multitude of different topics. From the paranormal, UFO's and medical field to criminal justice, profiling, and crime scene investigations. I have a wide range of skills and interests. I enjoy art and consider myself to be an artist. Most of my drawings are pen and ink using stippling for shadowing, etc. I paint as well, but haven't completed a painting in quite a few years. The black and white painting above is one of my paintings. I've also received 1st and 2nd Place Ribbons on several pieces of my artwork at local and state fairs and one Best Amateur Artist ribbon.
As for my personal life, I'm a single mom with two boys (23,27) and a daughter (17). Oh, and I can't forget our animals: Joe Black (cat), Bentley (cat), and Angel (dog). I enjoy spending time with my kids and have several hobbies I enjoy as well; drawing, painting, crafts, writing poetry and short stories, camping, hiking, fishing, and taking long drives in the car without having a destination in mind.
