ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Although San Jose was his hometown, the world was his oyster. And so, off he went...
To social commentator R. Martin Basso, nothing is sacred: Not sex or love, not religion, money or death…And certainly not politics.
Armed with a collective of worldwide life experiences, bohemian R. Martin Basso observes the ebb and flow of 21st Century culture when evaluating the human condition. As he attests, contemporary society would indeed be ideal if humanity were not thoroughly committed to its own destruction.
Human beings, just being human… Or attempting to, at least.
Having apparently been raised by wolves, R. Martin Basso was that proverbial baby thrown out with the bath water. As a broken boy, he grew up into a broken man’s frame. Throughout life, how many victims had R. Martin Basso constructed with that Darwinian logic of his?
He could not remember. He could not count. He did not know.
Throughout his upbringing, it was primarily the Chaos Theory that forged R. Martin Basso’s early self-identity. Thus was born the egomaniacal gypsy he’d ultimately have to confront, and kill, in his adulthood quest for maturity and accountability.
In R. Martin Basso’s memoirs, The Confessions Of A Jilted Superstar, In His Many Conversations With God, (available through Barnes & Noble, Borders Books and Amazon.Com - Keyword: JILTED SUPERSTAR) the challenge of finding inner-peace amidst a life of instability is thoroughly dissected. Subsequently, so are the rewards associated with holding oneself accountable and Taking Ownership over the pains that would otherwise hold a person down.
“…People who go on blaming their adult mistakes on ‘this-unfortunate-childhood-event’ or ‘that-unfortunate-childhood-event’ make me want to vomit.
“…In maturity, negative childhood experiences should be savored, like fine wine, and not embraced as an excuse for dysfunctional adulthood behavior…”
“…Indeed, the human pathway to wisdom and maturity is cobbled with our assorted failures and embarrassing errors. As I’ve always charged, there are three indisputable laws governing society: (1) Men are stupid and women are evil, (2) repetition is indeed the key to success, and (3) there is black and there is white, but there is no in-between. How did we get to where we are today? Where are we supposed to be going? Nobody, it seems, really knows lately… How embarrassing…”
“…Thus what, but the obvious, can be said about Life: Take it, own it. Take Ownership of it…”
To R. Martin Basso, nothing is sacred; not sex or love, religion, money, death and definitely not politics. Armed with a collective of worldwide eccentricities, he crafts “structured bohemian perspectives” to evaluate the ebb and flow of Western society in his new book, The Confessions Of A Jilted Superstar, In His Many Conversations With God (AuthorHouse Publishing, Inc).
There’s certain bliss associated with being unique, with being different. However, deviation from standardized norms is frightening to most humans, and too often, such deviation is misinterpreted as eccentricity,” Basso says. “Indeed, the human pathway to wisdom and maturity is cobbled with assorted failures and embarrassing errors.”
It is a road that Basso — a unique deviant in his own right — knows quite well. The Confessions Of A Jilted Superstar… is part eloquent, engaging memoir and part scathing, satiric, social commentary. Basso leaves no subject unmolested as he rifles through a series of educated rants without regard for political correctness or proper etiquette. Sexual addiction, homelessness, alcoholism, hedonism, birth, death, love, revenge and, of course, the definition of the meaning of life are just a few of the topics upon which he unleashes the fury of his unfiltered thoughts.
Basso begins his work with interlaced chapters filled with admissions, thoughts and defining memories from the recesses of his mind. Through his writing, he says he tries to reconcile his life with all of the “anonymous pariahs hiding in the most remote crawl spaces of my inner thoughts.” He has revealed his “most private confessions” about how well he feels he has performed in the role of son and father while mining his inadequacies and concluding how his identity was shaped and refined. In addition, he takes these feelings and thoughts and applies them to the ills of the outside world. The result is a series of satiric and thought-provoking shorts. As these shorts progress, Basso’s trademark tongue-in-cheek guise unfolds while he conceptualizes life.
An eloquent, introspective memoir that explores the depths of a man’s soul and the soul of Western civilization, The Confessions Of A Jilted Superstar, In His Many Conversations With God is an engaging examination of modern life to which many readers can relate.
A product of the free love of the 1960s, Basso was born to a discharged Marine and a hippie mother. His father split early on and his mother was typically disconnected from reality throughout most of his childhood, so he was ‘apparently raised by wolves.’ The ensuing chaos was instrumental in molding his identity. Now, grown and slightly better adjusted to the outside world, he lives in San Jose, California.
The Confessions Of A Jilted Superstar, In His Many Conversations With God is his first mainstream, internationally distributed book.
