I am a former journalist who tired of sitting at my computer cradling the telephone and typing....who had a passion for horses and riding them over long distances, fast. I worried about the concussion I was causing over hundreds of kms of rocky and hard terrain and it bothered me that they had to run on these hard trax with metal on their feet. So I started to try and see if I could cushion their feet and lessen the concussion - first with wider but still metal shoes, an then with plastic shoes and finally barefoot! And then I started learning about equine hoof anatomy and hoof function and the endurance riding fell away as I went on a rather weird journey. Because of my geographic location and the fact that barefooting of horses was generally thought to be ridiculous (2003)...I had to learn to trim my own horses. Then my neighbours wanted their's trimmed. They could see that mine were going really well. And then my neighbour's neighbour .... and pretty soon I was trimming up and down my little valley in the Victorian High Country in Australia. These days I have my own barefoot trimming business based in the Macedon Ranges, an hour north west of Melbourne and I travel all over the urban fringe and countryside within an hour or two of the Melbourne CBD trimming client horses.
