I am your typical Renaissance Woman. My students wonder how I manage to do everything I do, and my friends and family do not hesitate for a moment to ask me for advice, explanation, or to get something done. This makes for a very interesting person, doesn't it?
1. NY Highschool Teacher - Global History, Art History, Psychology / Bronx, NY - South Side: successfully helping students beat the streets, develop as a person, and plan their future (college included) all the while mastering the newest instructional technology, managing a culturally diverse classroom complete with English Language Learners and various levels of education.
2. Pianist for 18 years (and counting): Classical, Baroque, Romantic to Jazz, Rock, and Soundtracks
3. Dance Coach: hip-hop, dancehall, reggae, jazz, and rock
4. Amatuer Chef: I was raised in an Italian family (no, not the Sopranos - more like "He must have just came to America" family). My grandfather was a chef in the Italian Navy, came to America, and (with my father) proceeded to start one of the most famous catering halls in the Bronx. However, as much as that seems justification in and of itself, my grandmothers and my mother have taught me the real skills of the kitchen. And no, Italian food is not the only thing I know how to cook!
5. Culture Buff with an M.A: Though my lineage in very narrow (Sicily + Naples), growing up in New York has expanded my knowledge of the world's cultures. My undergraduate and graduate work has been focused on the interaction of these cultures in developing social movements.
6. Beauty Fashionista: My grandmothers look like my mother, and my mother looks like my sister. Why? Pure organic materials, wearing what fits and looks good, and taking the time to care for oneself. My beauty interests focus on the tricks-and-trades of women in many cultures as well as dynamic contemporary trends.
7. Writer's Helper: I am not a professional writer in the least, but I do pride myself on how well I can aid the creation of thoughts and ideas. Maybe it's the natural teacher in me, but I am constantly looking for new ways of writing and any materials that can help that process.
