William F. Torpey on HubPages
I am a retired newspaper reporter and editor. My writing career began before college when I graduated from the Army Information School and served in Germany and Colorado as a publlic information specialist. After graduating from New York University in 1964, I worked in New York City, first as public relations assistant with the Commerce and Industry Association of New York and later as executive assistant with the Drug, Chemical and Allied Trades Association. I joined The Hour newspaper in 1968 and retired on June 1, 2000 after 32 years with the paper as a reporter and editor.
You can read more about my background and experience Here and clicking on my Profile at the blog I created to write my opinions on today's hot topics, especially those relating to politics, finance, current national and international events.
I also have a blog on lighter subjects, such as my passion for the talents of Bing Crosby, the greatest singer, actor and entertainer of the 20th Century. You can learn more about Bing and find some great videos Here or at my favorite site: Bing Crosby Internet Museum
Among my first blog posts is "The Fighting Hogans," the story of the sinking of the USS Gregory in World War II and the life and death of my Uncle Bill, a young Navy seaman who made the ultimate sacrifice during a surprise attack by superior Japanese forces in the waters around Guadalcanal. The story can be found on my blog --Here -- which also contains the story of my grandfather, Shamus O'Brien, a prize fighter and Irish champion who fought in the early 1900's. Shamus, aka Michael Hogan, went up against such greats as lightweight champion Benny Leonard and featherweight champ Johnny Dundee.
I also write here on HubPages. You can, too. It's easy, and it's free -- and you can even get paid for writing about what you love, or whatever interests you. HubPages makes the technical part easy, and you can make friends and get help on its active forum where "hubbers" help one another on a wide variety of issues. You can sign in as a member and start writing Here.

i really enjoy your political hubs...very astute and full of arcane information...I am honored to have you as a fan...as an aside, as a golfer, I would hope when my end comes I could go like Bing...

Loved your article on charities and the Salvation Army - Truly the most worthwhile charity in the US! It is straightforward and so un-commercial. I have been disallusioned by the whole "rules" game that most of my gifts (small that they may be) go to the Salvation Army otherwise I try to only give items or fund certain projects that I am involved with - that way I know exactly what happens. Besides, getting involved is just as important!
