I am a 63 year old news, magazine, book author and renal transplant survivor. I know what its like to be really sick, deal with dialysis, wait, and wait and wait on a transplant list even more. I have answered the same questions a million times, lived through the testing, the treatments, the well meaning friends and others, "the CALL" and the surgery. It has given me a rather unique perspective on how to survive through it all.
Not only that but I am a bridge playing, yorkie loving mother, grandmother, wife, educator and public speaker. No doubt others have different adjectives.
Having been born a Jersey girl my edge has been known to get the better of my self-censor. I can live with that.
I grew up in Newark, went to college in Connecticut, have lived in New York and now reside in central Massachusetts. I love the New England Patriots, tolerate the Red Sox and try to ignore the Celtics.
I have lived (and died) with a young daughter born with one of the rarest genetic diseases on the planet, Familial Dysautonomia, and know the grief and sorrow of her loss; adopted a child from Colombia and raised one biological daughter who has grown to be one of the strongest, smartest most compassionate people I have ever met. And, I've even managed to stay married to the same guy for 42 years. Even my dogs like me, most of the time.
