I am a member of the teaching faculty in the Department of Psychology at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where I teach Psychology of Race and Ethnicity and Theories of Psychotherapy.  I am also a Managing Editor at OpEdNews, a progressive website, with over 22,000 registered users (and about 700,000 unique visitors per month), that publishes original news and opinion articles about politics and other topics of interest to progressives. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in contributing.  My personal website is here.

My research and writing interests focus on conditions associated with changes in social identity and beliefs about race, ethnicity, and nationalism, especially in immigrant and minority populations. I'm a regular contributor to edited volumes on popular culture, including Harry Potter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and House, MD, published by BenBella and recently co-authored an academic book on the Russian-Jewish diaspora: Building a diaspora: Russian Jews in Israel, Germany, and the United States.

I was born in Kiev and, as a child, immigrated with my family to the United States in 1977. My personal and professional interest in race and immigration issues is documented in this autobiographical essay about academic careers and basketball. I'm excited about joining the HubPage community (in July, 2008) and looks forward to the new relationships that develop in this space.
